The event in a few words

Hallo and welcome to the Bijlmer Run! 🏃 For this new edition, you’ll be meeting up for a half marathon in the Netherlands, in Amsterdam 🚴. It’s in North Holland 🖼️, in the South-East neighborhoods, very close to the center of the Dutch capital, that you’re about to toe the line of a very recent event 👶, but already highly recognized ⭐. Although the Bijlmer Run half marathon is less well known than its big brother, the Mizuno Half Marathon, it’s gaining a reputation and now sells out every year! 🤩 This race has an authentic story, as it was imagined and put together by running enthusiasts 👟. The creators, Charita Zandgrond and Yoshi Green, also made the bet of making the race attractive, while restoring the image of the Bijlmermeer neighborhood 🏙️. Mission accomplished! ✅ As if that weren’t easy enough, the organization has taken on the new challenge of getting involved and fighting, in its own way, against sickle cell disease 🧬. If the word is complicated, just know that curing it is just as hard. For this reason, the race teamed up with the Sikkelcelfonds association and donates part of the bib price to them for medical research purposes. Fast and kind-hearted—you’ll really have some serious class 😎. As for the course, you’ll have the chance to discover authentic sites and the surroundings of Amsterdam 😌. It’s the perfect opportunity to have a great time in a super festive atmosphere, no matter the distance! 😁

And speaking of it! 🐺 3 road running distances of 5 km, 10 km and 21.098 km are offered, as well as a 10 km between colleagues, a 5 km walk and a small course for children 🧒. Everyone will find something they love! 🤗 Like all races in the Netherlands, the courses will be flat and fast 🏎️. Starting from Anton de Komplein, immersed in a crazy atmosphere 🥳, you’ll pound the pavement on a very diverse course. You may have noticed that the race logo forms a windmill blade, with its 4 wings 🪽. More than just a nod to the region, it’s also the Bijlmer Run half-marathon route! Indeed, the circuit is made up of 4 loops of 5 km, each of which will show you different aspects of the neighborhood: Nelson Mandela Park 🌳, more built-up sections, or cultural points of interest... 🎭 You won’t have time to get bored along the way! 😅 What’s more, there will be several cheering points all along the route 👏. So you’ll never be short on motivation during your race, because the crowd will be on fire! 🔥 There will even be a party at Anton de Komplein with a music stage 🎶 and plenty of food trucks to refuel 😋.

You’ve got it: the Bijlmer Run is a true local race 😍. Come discover the REAL Amsterdam for a weekend and a race! 🥰 You’ll be able to enjoy the calm of Bijlmermeer and take its many bike paths 🚲. If your legs still feel good, you can even ride to the center of Amsterdam and enjoy the must-do activities: the Anne Frank House 🏠, the Van Gogh Museum 🎨 or the iconic Rijksmuseum 🖼️.

Fair warning: the Biljmer Run is a record-breaking race ⏱️, so it’s going to be fast. Very fast 😉.

4 reasons to join this race

A powerful story 💪
The Bijlmer Run has a story like no other! This event was created to break down preconceived ideas about Amsterdam’s South-East neighborhoods and to share the values of running through an event open to all types of runners 🏃. Here, the focus is on sharing and celebrating the different local movements.
Restoring a neighborhood’s image 🏙️
The Bijlmermeer neighborhood has been given a new image since the creation of this sporting event 💪. The Bijlmer Run has brought a breath of fresh air to this part of the city, a bit away from the heart of Amsterdam 🩷. The race now sells out every year, so it’s a successful bet for the event’s creators, whose goal was to break negative stereotypes about these neighborhoods and develop sport there 🏋️.
Move and have fun for the cause 🫶
With its 5 distances on offer, the Bijlmer Run is the perfect opportunity to bring together as many people as possible around running 🏃. Not only do you run for yourself, you also move things forward collectively 🫂. For some time now, the Bijlmer Run has partnered with an organization fighting sickle cell disease, so that every runner can contribute a few euros. Part of the price of your bib therefore supports the cause ❤️‍🩹. If you want to invest more in the fight, you can also buy exclusive merchandising in collaboration with Sikkelcelfonds, or create a fundraising page with your friends and family 😉.
Enjoy the weather 😎
You’ll meet right in the heart of spring 🌸 in the lands of North Holland! We know temperatures tend to be cool up north, but at this time of year, they’ll be ideal conditions to perform 😉. What’s more, you’ll have the opportunity to admire the flamboyantly colored tulip fields 🥰.
