Want to be the Duc de Boulbi (an affectionate nickname for Boulogne-Billancourt) in running form? 🎽 If you want quality, leave reality behind, you’ve got 21 km to make it happen at the Boulogne-Billancourt Christian Granger Half Marathon. An iconic road race in the Hauts-de-Seine, in Île-de-France, the Boulogne Half Marathon is the event’s only distance (and no, there’s no Boulogne marathon 😔), held in November. Plan a solid warm-up so your muscles don’t give up after just a few meters 💪.
Just a stone’s throw from Paris, this Boulogne half is especially well-known if you want to chase your best time ⏱️. The fast, flowing course is even suitable for para sports. The many participants will boost your determination all along the route 🔋. Bands and spectators—always there despite the autumn temperatures—will cheer you on and push you to reach the finish 🏁.
Starting from Victor Hugo Avenue (a real romantic, that guy 📚), you’ll head to the banks of the Seine, with a view of Île Paris Saint-Germain 🏝️. See that ship-shaped building? It’s not a Star Wars ship, but almost. It’s actually La Seine Musicale, on Île de la chèvre de Monsieur Seguin, where Tony Yoka usually fights 🥊 and where many bands performing throughout the year have built this venue’s reputation 🎹. So you find yourself on the banks of the Seine, in a bucolic setting with thousands of runners, and even though it’s crowded, everyone has their place.
Then you head near the Albert Kahn garden where you’ll be close to nature and the trees of the Bois de Boulogne 🌳, an unmissable part of the race. But hey, you’re running faster and faster—you’re practically galloping! That’s perfectly normal: you’re running alongside the Longchamp racecourse! 🏇 The Boulogne half is one of a kind because it blends grand nature, streets with that uniquely Parisian architecture, and unmissable as well as unusual places. Always on it—you and the asphalt, it’s chemical, no time to have your head in the bag: you turn around to head back the other way and run the same route again 🔁. If you had a headwind on the way out, it smells like a negative split ! If not… good luck! But don’t worry: the blazing atmosphere 🔥 along the route will carry you to the finish line even if you have to fight against wind and tide (just the expression, because tides in Boulogne aren’t really a thing 😆).
To recover properly from your effort, a little stroll in the Bois de Boulogne is a must to discover the secrets of these Parisian woods 🚶. If greenery is your thing, head to Edmond de Rothschild Park for a little picnic and a big breath of fresh air. Finally, you can also go explore the Albert Kahn museum 🎨 that you passed during your run. Phew! Quite the program... To refuel, we recommend throwing yourself on Parisian flan, Paris-Brest, or even a Saint-Honoré. You’ll never be short on sugar again after swallowing all that 😅.
The Boulbi half is the BB bomb ! 😉
The one and only distance of this event, and that’s already not too shabby since nearly 12,000 enthusiasts make the trip just for it. And a little extra bonus of this half: its course is adapted for para sport! 🏃♂️
So you start off at full speed on Avenue Victor Hugo, after managing to weave your way through the crowd, a small turn is needed to run alongside the Seine 🌊 on the south bank. You’ll leave it for a few kilometers before finding it again and following it all the way to the Hippodrome... Lucky you! 🍀 Take the time to enjoy the magnificent view 😻 along the riverbanks 😏. Don’t forget to turn your head to admire the unusual building of La Seine Musicale located on an island. Next up is the famous Bois de Boulogne waiting for you, once you’ve passed the Longchamp racecourse. After a short getaway in the forest 🌳, you turn around and off you go, retracing the route you’ve just run, in the other direction. Just to enjoy the scenery a second time, but from a different perspective 👀.
