At the start of summer, you will traverse the famous Cheddar Gorge from end to end ๐๏ธ, with the sole objective of crossing the finish line and fully enjoying the seasonal sunshine โ๏ธ. And for the occasion, you have the choice between combined events, children's distances, long distances, and even a marathon ๐ฅต. The refreshments and the famous arrival buffet will be very welcome ๐ฝ๏ธ.
If you're wondering why run in the land of "squeaky cheese", let us tell you more about the environment of Somerset, in the South West of England ๐ด. The hilly landscapes will leave you speechless and strongly contrast with the surroundings, due to the many caves ๐ณ๏ธ found there and the river Cheddar Yeo winding along the gorges ๐ฆ. And we haven't even talked about the local atmosphere ... ๐ฅณ As for the routes, you can choose between a scenic stroll or a prolonged intense effort. The "Gold Omnium" ๐ฅ, "Silver Omnium" ๐ฅ and "Bronze Omnium" ๐ฅ combined events combine power, speed, and endurance ๐๏ธโโ๏ธ. Whichever combo you choose, you'll face 100 m of sprinting ๐, 50 mD+ of vertical running, and 1 km of middle-distance running. The 10 km Cheddar Challenge is a simple loop with an additional 240m elevation gain ๐. Your start and finish points will be the same ๐. The crowd will be concentrated and will cheer you on at each key moment of your race ๐.
As for the race profile, the first 2 kilometers are very rolling. Take advantage to position yourself at the front of the pack! ๐ The first big challenge is at km 3, with a 28% slope ๐ต. It will be short but intense, so hold on tight ๐ข. Two other technical sections to expect are at km 4.5 and km 8, which will start relatively gradual climbs and will again demand that you tap into your reserves ๐ฅ.
