What do you call a lemon that runs very fast? 🍋
A squeezed lemon! 💨 A bit like you on Campanin City Trail day in October 🤭. But what’s the link between lemons and this event? Menton, of course! 💡 You’ll run through this lovely town known for its Lemon Festival, held at the end of every winter since 1934 📆. Unfortunately for you, the streets won’t be decorated with yellow and green lemons (but filled with spectators on fire for you 🔥). Get ready to run in the stunning setting of the Alpes-Maritimes, in the heart of Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur 🌞.
We hope you’ve got a strong stomach 🫀, because this race isn’t as easy as it looks 😬. Once nicknamed the “goat race”, the Campanin City Trail is known for its difficulty 🥵. Over 11 km and 300 m D+, the route takes you through this hillside town and its many staircases 📈. One thing’s for sure: if you love charming little southern villages, you’re in the right place! 🤩 Menton is known for its campanile, or “campanin” in Mentonnais (hence the race name), atop the Basilica of Saint Michael ⛪️. And since at Finishers we’ve got lots of culture (and access to Wikipedia 🤫), we’ll explain what a campanile is. This word comes from Italian “ campanile ”, which means “ bell tower ” in French and refers to a tower that houses bells 🔔. Now that you know it all, let us tell you about the course. The start is on the seafront, before climbing up to the heights of the town throughout the entire first part of the course ☝️. You’ll pass legendary spots like the dreaded Montée des Colombières 😰. In the second part, you’ll cross Menton’s trails as well as the preserved old town of Menton. The City of Lemons opens up its iconic passages to you such as the Chemin de Bellevessases, the Sentier du Paropert, or the Rue du Vieux Château 🏰. In short, you’ll find everything that made the Menton Sun Race a success, Campanin City Trail style! 👑
As they’d say in Menton: not a zest! ✋ Don’t leave right after picking up your medal 🥇. The area is full of little wonders to discover, like the Jean Cocteau Museum, the colorful lanes of the historic town, the Biovès Gardens, or even heading to Italy not far from here 📍. On the gastronomy side, we guarantee you’re going to love it! 😋 On the menu: Sugelli, local artisanal pasta listed as Intangible Cultural Heritage, Socca, Pichade, and of course the famous limoncello.
Alcohol should be consumed in moderation ⚠️
So, what are you waiting for to live the adventure? 🤪 We’re not Menton-ing you, you won’t regret signing up 🤝.
