Run through one of the most rugged and unspoiled corners of western Ireland!
Connemara International Marathon (Connemarathon) is an iconic race held in County Galway, right in the heart of the breathtaking Connemara region 🏃🇮🇪. Runners can choose from three distances: half marathon (21.1 km), marathon (42.2 km), and the brutal ultramarathon (39.3 miles / ~63.2 km). The course runs through the spectacular Inagh Valley (Inagh Valley), past frothy lakes, rolling boglands, and the majestic Maumturks and Twelve Bens mountain ranges, serving up in the final kilometers the famous, punishing climb known as Hell of the West.
After conquering this wild route, Ireland’s west coast invites you to a well-earned rest! Head to the stunning Kylemore Abbey – a neo-Gothic castle with fairytale gardens, picturesquely set on the shore of Pollacapall Lake 🏰. Visit Connemara National Park and follow the prepared trail to the summit of Diamond Hill, where an unforgettable view opens up over the ocean, nearby islands, and heather moorlands ⛰️. To finish, book a cruise on Ireland’s only fjord, Killary Harbour or head to the atmospheric, live-music-filled city of Galway 🚢🎶.
After a full day of effort, fuel up with a hearty fish soup (Seafood Chowder), local Connemara smoked salmon, and fresh oysters. Conquering Hell of the West is worth celebrating with a pint from the Galway Bay Brewery craft brewery or a glass of Irish whiskey 🐟🦪🥃
