The event in a few words

Put on your shoes and run: you’re gonna have a blast!

The Saint Gilles area lays out a life-size playground of nature directly clinging to the Atlantic Ocean 🌊. This race takes place in the heart of Vendée on what’s known as the Côte de Lumière. To give you a reference point, it’s the stretch of coastline linking the island of Noirmoutier in the north and the large bay of Les Sables-d'Olonne in the south. On the start line, the salty sea air blends with the scent of pines to deliver a real shot of pure oxygen straight to your lungs 🫁. Historically known as the capital of the sardine 🎣, the region now sees schools of sardines runners sweeping along its coastline with the same excitement as the fishermen returning to port with their holds full 🛳️. The playground offers an incredible setting with a spectacular coastal road energized by the sound of the swell and long stretches of fine sandy beaches ⛱️. The runner gulps down fresh air, gets the engine going again on flawless asphalt along the harbors, with the crash of the waves setting the race rhythm.

Two distances are on the program to make your soles smoke 👣. A half-marathon built for surging and a marathon. There will also be races for the little Vendée kids as well as one with parents to get the whole family running. Whatever journey course you choose, the route promises a unique visual spectacle 🤩. Throughout the event, the multitude of scenery makes you completely forget the harshness of the effort 😤. No plane ticket needed to travel! ✈️ Conditions change constantly as the kilometers roll by. The route takes you, for example, along the marina harbor, where the clanking of masts blends with the cheers of spectators 👏. Elsewhere, full sun gives way to coolness 🥵. Strides link up in the shade, under the canopy formed by the branches of maritime pines. The road then gives way to a soft singletrack, carpeted with pine needles and compacted sand 🌲, ideal for easing your joints. The wild coast is also on the menu. Its schist cliffs, typical of the region, dictate a whole new approach. This sequence of nasty, leg-breaking sectors comes to lock up your thighs near the famous Trou du Diable and the Cinq Pineaux rocks 🦵. The sections facing the ocean, dominated by the Joséphine Tower, offer explosive surges on smooth asphalt, where the crowd’s fervor carries competitors all the way to the final arch.

Once the medal is around your neck and your thighs are trembling 🥇, recovery takes on a purely local flavor. After exploring (almost) every inch of the towns of Saint Gilles Croix de Vie and Saint Hilaire de Riez in long strides, stick around to enjoy this friendly region 😋. The time for pre-race dieting is over! The hungry athlete happily swaps gels for the local star 🐟: the famous sardine of Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie. It, too, has its Label Rouge medal. It comes with warm Préfou (a delicious unleavened bread generously filled with fresh garlic, butter, and pepper), ideal for instantly regaining strength and slowing the onset of post-race soreness 🏃. Finally, the bravest celebrate their time with a good craft beer—of course, to be enjoyed in moderation to keep your balance on the way back… 🥴

Between the call of the open sea, the fresh air of the pines, and the smell of hot préfou at the finish, all that’s left is to pin on your bib 🫵.

4 reasons to join this race

Total immersion in the scenery 🌅
The abrupt alternation of settings prevents any monotony for landscape lovers 😍. Your gaze shifts from the sea and its swell crashing on the wild coast to the green, dense shade of the Vendée pines in a split second. This visual diversity acts like a natural painkiller, working on the athlete’s mind and instantly erasing the pain of the accumulated miles 😮‍💨.
Race formats for every pace 🏃‍♂️
No one’s left out on the start line—the course adapts to everyone’s level of preparation. We kick off the action as early as Saturday with the youngest runners: three kids’ races split into three age categories, plus a parent-child duo race. For adults, the half-marathon strikes the perfect balance to work on your cruising speed and test your kick against the sea breeze, while the marathon remains a pure endurance challenge accompanied by the Atlantic wind 🐚.
The Atlantic as a formidable sparring partner 🥊
On the coast, you’re not only racing the clock—you’re also racing with the elements. The ocean breeze joins the course to challenge your footing and test the pack’s mental strength. This unpredictable sea wind forces you to be smart: shelter strategically in small groups for protection, then surge again as soon as it calms down 💨. A real tactical dimension that turns a simple road race into a true seaside challenge!
The most sea-inspired post-race refreshment in the West 🤤
Visualizing the finish arch with the obsession of devouring grilled sardines is a powerful psychological lever 🍴. The Saint Gilles terroir radically replaces the classic trio of energy gels with a maritime feast rich in omega-3s. Perfect for instantly bringing back smiles and energy to even the most exhausted bodies 😥.

A word from the organizer:
