The event in a few words

The Kamogawa Ecomarathon invites you to start the year by the water, on the banks of the Kamo River, in January ๐Ÿ“†. Here, the month means fresh air and often clear skies.

Located in Kyoto, Japan ๐Ÿ‡ฏ๐Ÿ‡ต, the event offers 3 races accessible to beginners as well as to experienced runners who are there to chase the clock โฑ๏ธ. The course is flat ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ. You will run along the banks of the Kamo River, in the Fushimi ward, south of Kyoto. You can choose between a half marathon, a 10 km and a parent-child race of 5 km ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ง, open to children under 15. With the races limited to 300 participants in total, you won't risk being trampled when the starting signal is given ๐Ÿ˜Œ.

With around fifteen races per year since 2009, particularly in the prefectures of Saitama, Osaka, Hiroshima, Kyoto and Kumamoto (but mainly in Tokyo ๐ŸŒธ), the Ecomarathon positions itself as an organization that is mindful of the environment ๐ŸŒณ and committed to various causes ๐ŸŽ—๏ธ. Part of the proceeds is donated to charitable organizations: Second Harvest Japan, a food bank, and Refugees International Japan, which supports refugees ๐ŸŒ.

Kyoto is often seen as the cultural and spiritual heart of Japan ๐ŸŽ. This former capital is now famous for its many Buddhist temples, Shinto shrines, traditional gardens, imperial palaces and well-preserved wooden houses. You may even get to attend the famous tea ceremony ๐Ÿต.

For a traditional visit, the Fushimi Inari shrine, located in the same ward as the start, lines up thousands of red gates! โ›ฉ๏ธ After the effort, the onsen open their baths to tired legs, very popular among locals! ๐Ÿ’โ€โ™€๏ธ

So, ready to run by the water? See you on the banks of the Kamo! ๐Ÿ

4 reasons to join this race

Discover Japan ๐Ÿ‡ฏ๐Ÿ‡ต
If you've never been to Japan, running the Kamogawa Ecomarathon is the ideal opportunity to discover a country that combines tradition and modernity in every circumstance. If you extend your stay, we invite you to explore Kyoto. Between the Onsen (traditional Japanese baths), the Fushimi Inari shrine and the many Buddhist temples, you won't get bored! ๐Ÿคฉ
Take part in a human-sized event ๐Ÿง‘โ€๐Ÿง‘โ€๐Ÿง’โ€๐Ÿง’
The maximum number of participants is 300. If you're used to international races with several thousand participants, you'll see that the buzz is not the same. But don't worry, we guarantee you'll enjoy running just as much (maybe even more)! ๐Ÿƒ
Run in an eco-friendly way โ™ป๏ธ
The Ecomarathon is strongly committed to protecting the environment: timing powered by solar panels, a bicycle as the lead vehicle, and a certificate to download rather than print. In organizing the event, the Ecomarathon has opted for bibs made of recyclable material as well as recyclable cups โ™ป. The organizer encourages runners to bring their own containers for the aid stations ๐Ÿฅค.
Taste Japanese specialties ๐Ÿฑ
Kyoto has turned cuisine into an art: kaiseki, tofu, matcha tea from the Uji region. Enough to enjoy a reward worthy of your finish line ๐Ÿฑ .
