"And it goes on and on..." as our dear friend Francis would say 🎤.
"... it's just the beginning, alright, alright" : that's for sure! 😬 The starts won't be lacking, and you'll even miss traditional races, you know, the ones where you run continuously from start to finish ➡️. One starting line, one effort, one difficulty ... ahhh the good old days 🙄. The challenge of the Endurance Backyard 95 is much more than that. At a minimum, you'll line up for 1 start, but at a maximum for 48 starts 🤯. And all in one go, no question of taking 48 bibs 😂. The advantage is that you won't be alone in this jam: the 339 other participants of this edition will be wondering just like you why they signed up for this odd challenge 🤦♂️. Perhaps to explore the Val-d'Oise department, or simply to get some fresh air in this pleasant month of October, who knows? 🍂 But let's focus a bit on the race, we tell you more just below: 👇
The "Backyard", has nothing to do with the famous trilogy "Back to the future" (although you will have a rough idea of what your 48 next hours 🕰️ will be like), it is actually a running concept imported by our good old neighbors Americans 🇺🇸. Yes, when it comes to finding challenges that test the body and make you suffer for hours and hours, it’s often the country that gave birth to "Fast & Furious" and Dwayne Johnson to get all the credit 🎖️. Although we are not in the United States but rather in Taverny, in Île-de-France, the concept of the Backyard remains the same ✅. The idea of the race, brutal but simple enough, is to be the last runner standing 🧍♂️. All participants will start at 5 PM sharp for a supposedly "endless" race ♾️. From the start signal, you have 60 minutes to complete a loop of 6.76 km and 36 mD+, on a trail-like path 🌱. Once back at the camp, the time remaining on the 60 minutes is left for you to attend to your affairs 😴. But as soon as the second start is signaled, you need to be standing at the line again, and set off without flinching 😎. It seems easy when put like this, but over time, you quickly reach 161 km after 24 hours, the equivalent of a 100 miles event 💥. To avoid blocking everyone for an entire week (we know you have reserves), the organizers have here limited the race to 48 loops 🔁. This way, you're sure to set yourself up in your couch on Sunday evening by 7 PM, and start your favorite show 📺.
After spinning for 48 hours in the same spot, how about enjoying the surroundings a bit? 🤩 This nature race that takes its start in Taverny is surrounded by forests, castles, and watercourses 💦. Perfect for a change of scenery and extending your stay in the area. Now that you know the Bois de Boissy like the back of your hand 🌳, why not tackle the vast Forêt Domaniale de Montmorency 🪵. With the many wonders it holds, the best option is to go without a specific plan and let yourself be carried by its features: 😋 ponds, viewpoints, streams, castles 🏰, fountains, or even stables set everywhere in the forest 🐎. You’ll see: it’s a bit like a treasure hunt, but you do not yet know what the final treasure 🎁 is. And if you really want to put yourself in the shoes of a brave adventurer, you can always come disguised 🥸. Just a few kilometers away, you’ll also find the Château d'Écouen, a true Renaissance jewel 💎, perfectly maintained and accessible for visits. If stars interest you more than old bricks 🧱, you can also head towards Le Bourget in less than an hour by car 🚗, to discover the Museum of Air and Space. Your few miles covered previously will seem infinitely small compared to the size of the universe 😳. Finally, for our budding artist poets, the Van Gogh House is just minutes away heading toward Beauvais, more precisely in Auvers-sur-Oise 🧑🎨.
