Great Limerick Run 2027

Run in one of Ireland’s biggest mass-participation races! The Great Limerick Run (also known as the Regeneron Great Limerick Run, organised in partnership with Bear Races) takes place every year over the long May weekend in historic Limerick 🏃🇮🇪. You can choose from: the full marathon (solo or as a relay), the half marathon, the 6-mile race (~9.7 km), and Saturday kids’ races. The fast, flat course takes you through the vibrant city centre, the University of Limerick campus, along the scenic River Shannon, and past the legendary Thomond Park Stadium, while music zones and the roaring support of spectators create a truly festival-like atmosphere.

After you cross the finish line on O'Connell Street, Limerick and western Ireland invite you to a well-earned rest! Visit the mighty 13th-century King John's Castle proudly standing over the River Shannon and head to the atmospheric, historic Milk Market 🏰🧀. Take a trip to the nearby Bunratty Castle & Folk Park (15 minutes from the centre) – an impressive castle and living open-air museum where you can see what everyday life was like in old Ireland 🏰🐑. Set off for the spectacular ocean cliffs of the Cliffs of Moher in neighbouring County Clare, or to the mysterious Lough Gur, surrounded by Ireland’s largest stone circles 🌊🪨.

To end the day, try the famous traditional Limerick ham (Limerick Ham) glazed with honey and mustard, artisan cheeses from the Milk Market, and celebrate your success with a pint of local beer from the craft brewery Treat City Brewing 🥩🍺
