Do you want to combine your love of sport with a beautiful patriotic gesture and celebrate Poland’s regained independence in truly championship style? The Independence Run in Elbląg is one of the most uplifting and energetic sporting events in the region 🏅! Imagine a start line where hundreds of runners dressed in white and red shirts form a living, moving Polish flag, and singing the national anthem together just before the starter’s gun is guaranteed to give you goosebumps. Participants can look forward to a fast, flat course through the city streets and the flagship 10 km distance—perfect for a strong end to the running season 🏁.
Elbląg – one of the oldest cities in Poland – is very well connected to the entire northern part of the country: from the Tri-City you can get here via the expressway in just 45 minutes, from Malbork in 25 minutes, and from Olsztyn in a little over an hour 🚗. Once you proudly cross the finish line with a beautiful commemorative medal around your neck, a November weekend in Elbląg and the surrounding area will offer you great ways to relax and celebrate your success:
A baker’s story with the family: After the run, be sure to take a walk around Elbląg’s atmospheric Old Town 🏰. Find the original Market Gate, in front of which stands a bronze statue of Piekarczyk—the legendary apprentice who saved the city from the Teutonic Knights. Legend has it that rubbing his nose brings good luck and lightning-fast recovery for tired legs! It’s also worth climbing the tower of St. Nicholas Cathedral, which offers a stunning panorama of the area.
A romantic riverside walk: Take your significant other for a charming stroll along Zygmunt August Boulevard by the Elbląg River 🌊. The cool evening vibe of the illuminated city, the view of the lit-up drawbridges, and the nearby cafés create perfect conditions for a lazy afternoon for two.
A visit to the Grand Master: Take advantage of the proximity of Malbork and visit the monumental Teutonic Malbork Castle 🏰. A walk through the world’s largest Gothic castle in the autumn scenery is incredibly impressive and mysterious—and it’s a great, effortless way to walk off sore muscles.
Traditional goose flavors for recovery: November celebrations and a huge energy burn call for a proper meal 🤔! In Polish culinary tradition, Independence Day is the time for goose. Drop by a local restaurant for excellent roast goose, try fresh fish from the Vistula Lagoon, or order a warming, traditional Elbląg stew cooked in a cauldron.
Put on a white-and-red shirt, feel the pride and the incredible unity with hundreds of other runners, and show up at this special start line … 🦅 Elbląg is waiting for you, so we can run for independence together!
