The event in a few words

In Spain, in the Baix Maestrat region, lies an allegedly insurmountable fortress: Peñíscola ⚔️.

This city has been conquered several times throughout history 🏰. And this year, a new soldier will attempt to conquer it again... you 🫵. But to take part, you’ll need to be determined 🫡. This race is not for beginners ❌. It’s a challenge designed for those eager to embrace the essence of endurance 💨. This triathlon consists of a 3.8 km swim 🏊, 180 km of cycling 🚴, and a 42.195 km run 🏃. And yes! If you're good at math, you'll notice it totals 226 🤓

Organized by Infinitri Sports, this 226 event is the culmination of a project that has been in the works for years 🗓️. After ten editions of the half-distance race, moving to the XXL format was a clear choice 😎. It was a hit from the first year, with unanimous praise for the excellent organization 👍, the beauty of the course 🌊, and the incredible energy that radiates from this small Spanish town 💃. Moreover, this event isn't named "226" by chance: you'll cover a cinematic 226 km journey 🎬. In fact, Peñíscola served as a backdrop for the sixth season of Game of Thrones…🧌 That's right. You never know, you might bump into Lord Varys and Tyrion Lannister in the medieval streets 🔥. Located on a tombolo, this magical peninsula is dominated by the famous Peñíscola Castle, once the hideout of Pope Luna, with its white streets frozen in time ⏱️. Picture yourself diving into the Mediterranean Sea at the foot of this castle, hopping on your bike to tackle the hills of the Valencian region, and finishing your run at the iconic Plaza de Santa María 📍.

The swimming course circles around the promontory along the coast before reaching the south beach for the first transition zone 🔄. The cycling route takes you through the inland Valencian countryside, between the towns of Càlig, Sant Jordi, and Cervera, on a circuit with three technical and hilly loops, well-known to regulars of the 113 format 🥵. No long, endless climbs here, but a wearisome elevation gain and constant changes 📈: it's the time to pace yourself and hang tough. Then comes the final marathon 💥, with four loops to the Ratlla del Terme, a change from the inaugural edition 1️⃣. This adjustment was designed to eliminate the daunting fifth lap that challenged the morale of many participants in the first event 😫. The result? A longer, but mentally smoother loop: enough to keep your focus until the end without (too much) monotony 💭. Because let’s be honest, after 3.8 km of swimming and 180 km of cycling, the only thing you'll want is to finish and enjoy a massive paella 🥘.

Just an hour from Valencia, Peñíscola is not only a triathlon destination but a must-see tourist gem 🔎. If you're still standing 🧍, run crawl leisurely through the medieval streets, climb to the castle's summit, enjoy a Meloso at the port, or explore the Sierra d’Irta Nature Park, just nearby 🌳. Legs too weary? 🥴 Opt for a swim at the beaches of Cala Pebret or Cala Russo 🏖️.

So, are you ready to push your limits in a breathtaking setting? 🏞️
