Cycling sportives, done; ultra-trails, finished; road races, a formality 📝... Have you covered the endurance sports scene and don’t know what to take on this year? The new Kyma event, 100% seaside and sandy beaches, is going to revolutionize your summer 😎.
So, if you're a keen observer, you’ll have noticed that the race kicks off at the start of October rather than in the middle of the summer season—but this kind of format takes preparation! Kyma is your dose of Marseille challenge, where the environment will literally add its pinch of salt to your effort 😝. Sunshine, wind, and an overflowing good vibes atmosphere—that’s exactly what awaits you in the Bouches-du-Rhône as you push your limits ✅.
As for the format, you’re about to sign up for a Fitness Race-style event, a new format that blends strength stations and endurance sports 🔥. Each event designs its own stations and centers its endurance portion around the sport of its choice. Here, you can choose running or swimming 🏊. In the first case, it’s the "Kyma Run", where you string together 8 stations and 8 loops on a course facing the sea 🌊. But don’t get caught staring at the vast expanse of water in front of you—you’re in a highly competitive format and no one will snap you out of it 😂. 8 kilometers of running—you don’t have time to dawdle! The second option is the "Kyma Swim", with a total of 1.6 km of swimming, i.e., 200 m per loop 🔁. It’s almost a sprint, but watch your pacing—the stations will tire you out too 😅. Finally, if you’re really looking for originality with competitiveness, you can go for the "Kyma Night", with a nighttime challenge that will make you feel like Marseille never sleeps 🥳.
Another distinctive feature of Kyma is, above all, the way you compete 👯♂️. You’ll never be alone in the effort: the race is experienced exclusively as a duo, with your favorite partner. That way, when you’re struggling, they pull you up—and vice versa 💕. Even the celebrations have more style! The only challenge you still have to overcome is deciding who to ask to join you 🤝. Your boyfriend, your girlfriend, your dad, or your best friend—choose wisely 👀.
Once the effort is far behind you, you can take your time and enjoy: Marseille, Cassis, La Ciotat and the many nearby calanques have all kinds of surprises in store for you 🤩. While you’re there, you can extend the trip with a stroll around the Old Port, a mythical spot in Marseille where you’ll find the fish market 🐟, and loads of excellent restaurants to fill your belly after a good active walk 🚶♀️. Speaking of food, our small recommendations include bluefin tuna and the famous squid of the Phocaean City. Once your stomach is nice and full, make a detour to the Mucem for the photo spot 📸, or head up to Notre-Dame de la Garde to enjoy the city center in wide-angle view. The famous basilica has watched over the town for more than 800 years, and you’ll undoubtedly be impressed by the aura it gives off 😳.
This fall, come work wonders in Marseille, and push yourself to (ky)maximum power 💥 !
A word from the organizers, Martial & Pierre-Alexis:
"KYMA was born from a simple conviction: the best races are experienced outdoors, as a pair, facing the elements. We grew up within a community of outdoor-sport enthusiasts in Marseille — between sea and hills, every week, in all weather. KYMA is the event we dreamed of experiencing as athletes before building it as organizers. We wanted to place it on the most powerful site we know: the Olympic Marina of Marseille. A venue that pulsed during the Paris 2024 Games, and that we’re opening for the first time to a hybrid endurance competition. The mandatory duo format isn’t a gimmick. It’s the heart of KYMA. We believe shared effort creates something more intense than solo performance. When your partner lets go, you pull. When you let go, they pull. That’s what we want to see at the finish line. First edition. Everything remains to be written. We’ll see you on October 3 and 4, 2026."
You’ll be able to pick up your bib at the Olympic Marina site, on race day, 2 hours before your pair’s start slot. An ID document is required to collect it.
