Have you ever been to the North? No, not in Lille or Douai, even further up! In the northernmost territory of the metropolis where even the village names make you think you've already reached Belgium… Don't worry, you're still in France, specifically in French Flanders, near Bailleul, which welcomes you to a colorful trail: the Nord Trail Monts de Flandres (let's call it the NTMF like everyone, okay?). In April, head over to Hauts-de-France under the sun and sweltering heat to face its cool morning temperatures and say hello to our Belgian friends (yes, yes, you'll have the chance to go there during your trail!) 🇧🇪.
13, 25, 42, 59, 80… Hey, put away your Euromillion ticket, we're not giving you the winning numbers but presenting the program of the different races of the trail in the heart of the Monts de Flandres and their peaks. So, these 5 distances will be offered in the NTMF program, enough to satisfy everyone's tastes even though it's worth noting that Belgium only hosts the two longest routes, enough to motivate you to attempt a big distance 😜?
So, it's in the commune of Bailleul (which has its carnival and its belfry, like every respectable commune in the North) that the start and finish of the Monts de Flandres trail will take place. You'll quickly leave the town to delve into the heart of Flanders. The Mont des Cats, the Mont Kokereel, the Mont de Boeshpe, the Mont Rouge, the Mont Noir… (Jeanne Mas blasting in your ears will help you get through the last two) so many challenges that will stand in your way. Well, if you're used to trails that make you climb to 3,000 m altitude, you might be a bit disappointed when you reach the highest point of the race: the Mont Vincent Cassel at 176 m. But just take a look at the panoramic view it offers of the Flanders plain to understand that size doesn't matter ! The vegetation and crops offer a horizon of green and ochre and on clear days you can even have an amazing view of Dunkirk's port. Enjoy the gentle curves of the Flemish plains under the song of screaming swifts, but don't waste time because despite the low altitude, the succession of hills eats up your time and energy 🔋. Once on the way back to Bailleul, you can take a deep breath, the finish line is near!
After your race, you can enjoy the hospitality of Bailleul's residents and stroll through their city, destroyed over 90% during World War I but now considered one of the most beautiful municipalities in Flanders. And to regain some strength, what better than Flemish cuisine with its asparagus and its carbonade.
Stroll through Flanders and split the Flemish wind, we're not going to make a big fuss about it! 🍮
