It’s the first global trail circuit that brings together the cream of the crop of races and trail runners 🏃, happening all around the globe 🌍. The ultimate goal? 🏆 The rules of the game are simple: to enter one of the races, you just need to earn points by finishing one (or more) labeled UTMB World Series Events and UTMB World Series Majors and have a valid UTMB Index for the desired distance. These points, known as Running Stones, are like tickets for the UTMB Finals, which are the 3 must-do races in Chamonix: UTMB, CCC, OCC. Easy, right? 😏
🔹 Important Note ⚠️
The Running Stones remain valid forever ⌛, but at least one point must be less than 2 years old for all to be playable 🗓️. Basically, your points accumulate over the seasons in your UTMB account 🏃, like a savings account. For example: To participate in a race in Chamonix in 2026, you need at least 1 Running Stone acquired in 2025 or 2026. Make sense?
🔹 Final Note ☝️
It's unfortunate, but it is what it is: the UTMB World Series Qualifiers and UTMB Finals 🏁 do not allow you to win Running Stones!
🔹 4 Categories of UTMB-labeled Races 📝
To earn Running Stones, you must enter UTMB-labeled races in the international circuit 🏔️. UTMB defines 4 categories corresponding to different kilometer-effort ranges (it's a combination of distance and elevation 📈):
➡️ For the bold: 100M, for more than 170 km-effort
➡️ For the ambitious: 100K, for races between 100 and 169 km-effort
➡️ For the reasonable: 50K, for events between 50 and 99 km-effort
➡️ For the cautious: 20K, for races ranging from 20 to 49 km-effort
The kilometer-effort, what's that? For example, imagine a 50 km race with a positive elevation of 2,500 m 📈. This race equals 75 km-effort ⚡, because 1 km is added to the distance for every 100 m of positive elevation ↗️. So for our example: 50 km + (2,500 mD+ / 100) = 75 km-effort. The takeaway 🎓 is that the 4 categories of UTMB-labeled races are not based solely on distance 🔥, but they also consider difficulty 🥵.
A World Circuit comprised of 4 types of events
UTMB-labeled events fall into categories:
🔹 UTMB World Series Qualifiers: Many races worldwide
🔹 UTMB World Series Events: about forty international races
🔹 UTMB World Series Majors: 3 continental finals
🔹 UTMB Finals: Chamonix event
If you're aiming for the grand finale in Chamonix ⛷️, know that the UTMB World Series Majors give double the Running than the Events 👊.

What category are you in? 🤓 If you want to enjoy the atmosphere and environment of the Ultra Marin without the long distance, opt for the "Grand Relais" in a team of 4 🤝. Or choose the "Raid" or "Réveil des Ducs" solo for shorter distances: 100 km with 800 mD+ and 70 km with 500 mD+. For moderate appetites, there's "L'Arvor", "Ronde des Douaniers" or "La Vénète". Finally, the "Grand Défi Solidaire", where you can run 175 km in a relay of 10 for a good cause ❤️. A Trail in Morbihan means a happy Finisher! 😁
