The event in a few words

The dawn of a new year often means fondue ๐Ÿซ•, blankets ๐Ÿ›Œ, and series in cocooning mode ๐Ÿ“บ. For The Corsa della Bora, it means lacing up your sneakers and getting ready for a little hair rebellion ๐Ÿ’‡โ€โ™‚๏ธ.

Early January, this trail will take you around Trieste, between Slovenia ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ฎ and the Adriatic Sea ๐ŸŒŠ on the Italian side. Yes, you will run along the Italian-Slovenian border on nothing but the strength of your legs๐Ÿฆต. No need to worry about the weather: it will be just cool enough for your legs to work and for each stride to be felt โ„๏ธ. The start will be from the seaside resort of Sistiana ๐ŸŒด (except for the TransKarst Ultra of 57 km, which will start from Basovizza) but there's no time to tan ๐Ÿ‘™! Very quickly, you will chain together trails, typical villages, and little surprises along the way, enough to keep your eyes and calves well occupied ๐Ÿ˜. You'll run, laugh, enjoy, and start the year differently than on the couch ๐Ÿ›‹๏ธ. After a few kilometers, you'll realize that winter can be really nice when spent outside ๐Ÿ˜Ž.

The menu? It's ร  la carte ๐Ÿฝ๏ธ. As a starter, the S1 Borin (4 km) and the Family Hike & Trail (14 km) will be perfect for getting warmed up, strolling with the family, or saying โ€œI did the S1โ€ without too much sweat ๐Ÿ˜Œ. You can even do them in hiking mode ๐Ÿฅพ and bring your little four-legged friend ๐Ÿพ. As a main course, we offer the Half Trail (21 km) and the Borderless Trail (34 km) ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ: long enough for a real nature getaway ๐ŸŒฒ, short enough to be back in time for drinks ๐Ÿบ. And for big appetites, there will be an all-you-can-eat buffet: TransKarst Ultra (57 km), Explorer Ultra (84 km), and the holy monster, the Bora Ultra (105 km) ๐Ÿฅต. At this stage, it's no longer sport, it's a spiritual quest ๐Ÿง˜, but certified by the UTMB World Tour. On the course side, buckle up: you'll cross the Karst plateau, brush against the sea, climb ridges ๐Ÿ”ญ, and venture into the mythical Sentiero Rilke ๐Ÿž๏ธ, a real suspended balcony. We hope you don't have vertigo ๐Ÿฅด. In short, between sweat ๐Ÿ’ฆ, rocks ๐Ÿชจ, wind ๐Ÿ’จ, and โ€œwow check that out!โ€ ๐Ÿคฉ, you won't have time to be bored. And beware, the Bora can turn your trail into an improvised paragliding session... ๐Ÿช‚ Try not to fly away! ๐Ÿ›ซ At the finish, Portopiccolo will roll out the red carpet ๐ŸŽ‰. You'll enjoy the great atmosphere of the harbor with volunteers who make you feel like a star ๐ŸŒŸ. It's not quite the Cannes festival, but close! ๐Ÿ˜…

If you want to continue the celebrations๐Ÿฅณ, we have some recommendations for you! Because the Friuli Venezia Giulia region, it's not just about running and going home after โŒ. It's a place that mixes Austro-Hungarian elegance with Italian farniente ๐Ÿ˜. You can sip your spritz facing the gulf in bourgeois mode ๐Ÿน at Trieste, admire the Miramare castle perched over the sea ๐Ÿฐ, or wander through its downtown alleys stopping at one of its typical cafes โ˜•. And when hunger catches up with you, get ready for a festival of flavors: prosciutto San Daniele that melts in your mouth ๐Ÿฅ“, Friuli cheeses that will make you forget your Babybel ๐Ÿง€, and white wines from the hills that go down easy with a risotto ๐Ÿš. If you want to extend the adventure, know that Ljubljana ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ฎ is only 1.5 hours drive ๐Ÿš—. So we leave it to you to choose between Italy and Slovenia for the rest ๐Ÿ˜œ.

You come for the legs, you stay for the views, you leave with memories full in your head ๐Ÿ˜.

4 reasons to join this race

A unique playground between two countries ๐ŸŒ
Running on the Karst plateau is already an adventure in itself. The route follows the Slovenian border, offering you an incredible variety of landscapes: rocky coast, wooded trails, open views of the gulf, and snow-capped mountains as a backdrop. You'll go from technical altitude passages to more rolling sections where your legs can really express themselves ๐Ÿ’จ.
Ultra prestige ๐Ÿ…
The long races of the S1 (TransKarst, Explorer, and Bora Ultra) are part of the UTMB World Series circuit. In other words, you'll enjoy an amazing trail between land and sea while accumulating points for the biggest international challenges. Not a bad way to start the year as an adventurer and future UTMB finisher, right? ๐Ÿ˜Ž
The complete cultural experience ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡น
Trieste is the perfect blend of wild nature and the comfort of a big city. After the effort, you can explore its nooks and crannies, taste its local specialties, and enjoy the atmosphere of this border region. Trail, culture, gastronomy, change of scenery, it's the perfect combo for a memorable weekend! ๐Ÿ”ฅ
The perfect Mediterranean winter to run ๐Ÿƒ
Weather mode activated! Trieste offers a mild winter climate with views of the sea and snow-covered mountains in the background. It's the ideal destination for a winter break without freezing your calves too much. Plus, no pressure on performance level: you can run for fun in unpredictable weather conditions but never extreme! โ˜€๏ธ

A few more words

You will start the 105 km ultra on the shores of the Adriatic ๐ŸŒŠ, passing behind Trieste. You will quickly leave the seaside to climb onto the Karst plateau, where wild and airy limestone landscapes await you ๐ŸŒฟ. The course will then lead you to the Slovenian border ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ฎ, towards Bagnoli della Rosandra, with long rolling but demanding sections. Around km 35, you will tackle a series of ascents and descents before reaching the border area again at km 50.

After that, you will gradually return to Italy, through the Karst, until you see the sea and the cliffs of Duino and Sistiana๐ŸŒ… in the distance. The final kilometers will have you skirting the coast before heading down to the finish at Sistiana, after more than 105 km and 3800 m of ascent ๐Ÿ”ฅ.
