Come warm up your legs al dente ๐ค in the heart of the Italian Dolomites ๐ฎ๐น by running the Primiero Dolomiti Marathon. In July, you'll find yourself in the beautiful region of Trentino-Alto Adige, specifically in Fiera di Primiero, at the foot of the majestic Dolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage site ๐.
Welcome to the Paneveggio Natural Park, where the Primiero Dolomiti Marathon takes place. Between pine forests, lush alpine pastures, lakes of mountains, and picturesque villages, this race has everything of an Italian film... ๐ฌ. Here, you don't need to be a climbing expert or an incline disciple. Whether you're a weekend trail runner, a seasoned mountaineer, or just a lover of the great outdoors, there's a distance for you ๐ซต. The star of the program? โญ๏ธ It's definitely the main event, the 42 km with its 1,242 mD+ and 1,543 mD- (mama miaaa ๐ฅต). The start is at the majestic Villa Welsperg in the Canali Valley. You set off through the meadows ๐ฟ, gain some altitude towards the Piereni plateau, then cross authentic hamlets, encounter local cows ๐ฎ, follow forest paths, and climb (gently but surely) up to the Calaita Lake, perched at 1,600 m altitude ๐. Prefer a lighter version (but just as beautiful)? ๐ The 26 km, with its 448 mD+ and 1,198 mD-, offers you a gentle descent from San Martino di Castrozza, a true high altitude tourist gem ๐. You also pass by Malga Crel and the famous Lago di Calaita, then dive into the Lozen Valley, finishing with a fanfare ๐บ. It's the perfect combo for those who want to feast their eyes (and thighs ๐ฅ). Not thrilled? We have shorter but equally charming options! The 16 km starts from Zortea, a small village nestled in the Vanoi Valley, then takes you up 389 mD+ to the typical local hamlets ๐๏ธ before joining the other routes. In summary: it's short, it's beautiful, and it's good for the morale ๐. And if you just want to taste the atmosphere without straining your legs, choose the 6.5 km with 267 mD+. A lovely sporting walk that smells of nature and fresh herbs, perfect for a first time ๐.
Between us, the best part of the Primiero Dolomiti Marathon is what awaits you after the race ๐ฅ. Because once your race bib is stored and your shoes placed, the adventure continues dolce vita style! ๐ Start by recharging in the calm streets of Fiera di Primiero ๐. Then go explore the village of Mezzano, ranked among the most beautiful in Italy, or Siror, an alpine town worthy of a postcard ๐ฉ. On the culture side, donโt miss the Palazzo delle Miniere ๐ฐ. If you fancy some freshness, head to the Val Venegia Park, a green haven perfect for a walk or a picnic ๐งบ. And of course, donโt return without tasting the local specialties: steamy polenta, mountain charcuterie, apple strudel ๐ or casunziei ๐ฅ. After all, youโve earned it!
When your legs start to stiffen on the ascents, youโll know youโve reached the right level of doneness: al dente ๐คค. So, ready to tackle the Dolomites' elevation? ๐๏ธ
Welcome to the big league! On this legendary distance, you start from the Villa Welsperg, and one thing is certain, you're going to feel it in your legs (and enjoy the views, rest assured ๐). You pass at the foot of the Pale di San Martino, flirt with the Calaita Lake, climb some forest trails, and descend through the villages of Imer and Mezzano โฐ๏ธ. You finish your race beautifully in Fiera di Primiero, amidst applauses ๐.
Want taste without overdose? This 26 km is just what you need ๐ฅ. With 448 mD+ and 1198 mD-, you'll descend more than you'll climb (good or bad news, depending on the state of your knees ๐). You start from the beautiful San Martino di Castrozza, skirt the lake Calaita โ guaranteed postcard moment ๐ธ โ and head towards Fiera di Primiero through the forests and hamlets of the Passo Gobbera. Between pastures, valleys, and elevations, the pain will fade long after the pleasure ๐.
No need for long menus to savor Italy! ๐ The 16 km is a little shot of intense adrenaline for trail enthusiasts who want something substantial without the jelly legs ๐. You start from Zortea, a little gem perched in the Vanoi, climb gently through the masi of Lozen, join up with the longer distance courses... and whoosh, you descend to Fiera di Primiero. With 389 mD+ and 703 mD-, it's a nice descent with just enough ascent to wake up your calves ๐ฅ. It's short but intense, like a good ristretto โ.
Want to enjoy a taste of the Dolomites without (too much) sweating? ๐ฆ The 6.5 km is perfect for you, with 267 mD+ and as much descent, all set against the backdrop of magical peaks ๐คฉ. No need for a high level, just your smile and a pair of sneakers ๐. And afterwards? Enjoy the terrace, gnocchi, and a well-deserved Spritz ๐ฅ.
