The event in a few words

As Moses Isegawa said in the Abyssinian Chronicles: "You cannot build on sand"... certainly, but you can run on it ๐Ÿƒ. And that's exactly what the Sahara Desert Trail Morocco proposes through its journey across several stages ๐Ÿ˜Ž.

More precisely, the organizers have planned a week-long adventure for you between dunes, oases, and typical villages ๐Ÿœ๏ธ. You will discover the interior of Morocco and the vastness of the Saharan desert. To give you an idea ๐Ÿ’ก, Merzouga is located in the southeast of the country, in the Drรขa-Tafilalet region and represents the last ridge before the Algerian border. The dunes, the rocky areas ๐Ÿชจ, and the dry wadis will thus form the backdrop of the film in which you will play the lead hero ๐Ÿฆธโ€โ™‚๏ธ. Just like the namesake film Sahara ๐ŸŽฌ, you will be on the quest for your treasure: the finish line. For this purpose, the course has been marked over a distance of more than 130 km ๐Ÿ“, achievable in 5 days (the additional 2 days are dedicated to your departure and arrival at the site). Your only task is to follow the information to the finish, at Erfoud ๐Ÿ. Each evening, a good shower and a cozy bed will await you to recover from your day's emotions. We're sparing you the uncomfortable sleep in a tent โ›บ๏ธ.

On average, you will travel 27 km daily. And no, it's not a hallucination, you read that correctly! You might struggle, that's likely, but you will overcome it, that's certain ๐Ÿ”ฅ. This stage Ultra Trail taking place in January will allow you to explore lunar very dry and desert landscapes, in an optimal end of winter โ„๏ธ climate. An identical circuit in July, we can assure you it wouldn't be the same challenge ๐Ÿฅต. The first and last stages are the most "soft" with only 22 and 20 km long (mind you, that's a Half Marathon each time ๐Ÿ˜…). However, you need to be in top shape on the 4th stage day. 34 km will firmly await you. You'll sweat like a camel ๐Ÿซ. Fortunately for you, the organization reports no particular technical passages ๐Ÿšง. You can focus on progressing without worrying about how to place your feet. On the last day, finisher rewards will be handed out, and you can debrief your adventure with all participants during the closing night ๐ŸŽ‰. Quite a nice consolation after a week of intense effort ๐Ÿ’ฅ.

And for optimal rest, postpone your return flight by a few days and enjoy the region you are in ๐Ÿคฉ. Just a few kilometers from Merzouga, you can visit Rissani, known for its lively souks and the mausoleum of Moulay Ali Cherif ๐Ÿ•Œ. You'll find plenty of souvenirs and trinkets to satisfy all your family and friends upon your return. If you prefer a change of scenery and country, head south to Algeria ๐Ÿ‡ฉ๐Ÿ‡ฟ. The country, also nicknamed "The Gateway to Africa" boasts the largest area on the continent. Suffice to say, there's plenty for you to see: the Casbah of Algiers, the Tassili n'Ajjer, the Djurdjura National Park ๐ŸŒณ or the Roman ruins of Timgad; you will alternate between historic cities, natural discoveries, and ancient ruins ๐Ÿงฑ.

So, seeking solitude or shared adventure? ๐Ÿค Whatever your intent, you'll find your happiness during this mythical Sahara trail! ๐Ÿ† And don't forget your shovel and rake, they'll help you build the most beautiful sandcastles ๐Ÿฐ.

4 reasons to join this race

Unique landscapes ๐Ÿคฉ
Between golden dunes, vast rocky plateaus, and wild valleys, the Sahara Desert Trail Morocco will take you through the most beautiful terrains of the region ๐Ÿœ๏ธ. Truly, effort is not the only thing that will take your breath away ๐Ÿคช. The little extra of this race is also its timing. Organized in January, you won't be overwhelmed by the usual Saharan heat, but you'll still enjoy the lunar and desert landscapes ๐Ÿ‘๏ธ.
An authentic trail ๐Ÿค
For this trail, the organizers immediately wanted to create something authentic and distinctive ๐Ÿƒ. You won't be jogging on paved roads and heavily traveled paths. Prepare to go off the beaten path and venture into the real Moroccan desert, in the southeast of the country ๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡ฆ. Here, every grain of sand tells its own story... ๐Ÿ“–
A true human adventure ๐Ÿซ€
We're not talking about a few kilometers in the desert for just one day ๐ŸŒ…. The Sahara Desert Trail Morocco is a powerful athletic and human adventure that pushes you to your limits. You'll have the opportunity to interact with the locals, the organizers, other participants, and create lifelong memories. Here, it's not the finish line that will leave a mark, but the path traveled and the people encountered ๐Ÿซ‚.
The chance to see camelids ๐Ÿช
A rather funny word "camelid," isn't it? It refers to the family of animals that includes, among others, camels and dromedaries ๐Ÿซ. Who's the smart one now? So if you dream of seeing a real camel, rather than watching Aladdin, Asterix & Obelix, or The Mummy on repeat, you're in the right place ๐ŸŽฌ. You're likely to spot these funny creatures at every corner, but don't forget: 2 humps for the camel, 1 hump for the dromedary. You are now ready to go on a safari ๐Ÿ‘€.

A word from the organizer:

"We are keen to show people that they are capable of far more than they imagine. We are here to encourage them to be proud of themselves and to leave with a smile, knowing they have accomplished something."
