The event in a few words

Here’s a race like no other! 🙌

Right in the middle of February, the Senegal Marathon offers an extraordinary adventure on the magnificent Petite Côte 🇸🇳. Located in the Thiès region, this major event is the must-attend rendezvous for all fans of running and wide-open spaces 🌱. This race is a real journey where sport blends with a culture of infinite richness 😍. It’s a chance to experience the famous Teranga, that legendary Senegalese hospitality you won’t soon forget 🫂. From village to village, locals turn out to cheer you on, sing, and set the rhythm of your strides to the sound of local instruments 🪘. The atmosphere is shaping up to be totally wild, and whether you’re coming to smash a PR or simply to support, you’ll be in for a feast for the eyes and ears 👂. The technical management is entrusted to the experts of the Senegalese Athletics Federation, so you can bet the organization is dialed in down to the millimeter so you can run with complete peace of mind 🧘.

The festivities menu is ultra-complete with 5 races on the program 😜. Purists of the king distance will take on the legendary marathon, while tempo-run lovers will opt for the half marathon 📍. If you prefer to go hard over a shorter distance, the 10 km and the 5 km are there to set your thighs on fire 💥. Even future champions get their moment in the spotlight with the 2 km Kids, not to mention the feisty Corporate Challenge to run as a team👯‍♀️. The route is a spectacular out-and-back that draws a perfect line along the coastline. It’s a fairly fast profile, but don’t underestimate the African heat, which can turn the end of the race into a real decider 🥵. As a fun fact, since the first edition, the winners have been crowned king and queen following the rites of the Serer ethnic group 👑. In the men’s race, the king of the previous edition is Ousseynou Ndiaye, author of a blistering 02:41:41 that leaves everyone in agreement. On the women’s side, Pascaline Manga sealed the deal in 03:37:02 💁‍♀️. Out-of-this-world performances that remind you you’ll have to be tough to shake up the hierarchy! Another great strength of this course is its cultural diversity: it crosses two towns and four villages (for the marathon) brimming with history ✍️. The start is in Saly, the seaside resort on the coast 👙. As you extend the effort, you’ll pass through Warang, a haven of peace known for its craftsmanship and hypnotic calm 😵‍💫. Next comes Nianing, a history-laden village with its famous baobab forests 🪾. Finally, the turnaround will take place at majestic Pointe Sarène, a wild and grand eco-tourism site, a true raw jewel of the coast 🤩.

After crossing the finish line and receiving your well-deserved medal, nobody heads off for a nap ❌. Senegal has so much to offer to recover from a race like that! First, recharge your batteries with the local gastronomy 😋. It’s the perfect time to sit down to an authentic Thiéboudienne (the national fish-and-rice dish) or a nicely spiced chicken yassa, ideal for post-effort carb loading 🌶️. To relax your tired legs, nothing beats a gentle stroll on the fine sandy beaches of Saly or a total disconnect amid the dunes of Pointe Sarène 🏖️. Are you an animal lover? Go explore the Bandia Reserve, located just a short distance away, to say hello to giraffes and rhinos 🦏. Big history buffs will treat themselves to an excursion to Gorée Island—a must—to feed your mind after wearing out your sneakers 🏃.

The Senegal Marathon holds no more secrets for you! 🤫
