A race on the ocean? 🌊 No, no—no running on water, unless you’re secretly God 🤯. But you’ll be pretty close to paradise 🪽.
Welcome to the Valle del Cauca department, in the heart of the Pacific region of Colombia 🇨🇴. The Carrera del Pacífico isn’t just a race—it’s a full immersion in the world capital of salsa 💃. In mid-September, the city pulses to the rhythm of a flagship event 😎: an ultra-fast 10 km. If you’re looking to smash your personal best on the asphalt 💥, you’re in the right place ✅. Here, elevation gain is almost nonexistent (we’re talking pancake-flat 📏), which allows international elites to come tease world-class times every year. It’s basically the Fast and Furious of running—just without the cars 🚘 and with a lot more sweat 🥵.
The course is a high-intensity guided tour 😜. You’ll run through the most iconic areas of Cali, between modernity 🏙️ and historic neighborhoods 🏛️. Picture yourself running where scenes of popular fervor evoke certain Latin-vibe 🌎 movies, where every street corner seems ready to spark a dance move 🪩. Geography is no joke here 📍: you’ll follow the lush green parks 🌳 and the big avenues that are in the city’s DNA 🧬. It’s urban, it’s dynamic, and above all, it’s designed to make your legs tick like Swiss watches 🕘 under the Colombian sun ☀️. You can probably go for your personal best, and we hope you pull it off brilliantly! 🤩 As for atmosphere, it’s the real deal. The Carrera del Pacífico is famous for its "furia", that contagious energy ⚡️ that pushes you through the final meters. No need for a symphony orchestra when you’ve got the cheers of the Caleños (in case you were wondering what people from Cali are called) lining the route. The numbers speak for themselves, with thousands of participants turning the streets into a colorful human tide 🌈. Post-race? That’s when you let the pressure drop 😮💨. The race village is the ideal meeting point to share your feats with other finishers 🥇, all in the festive atmosphere that’s pure Colombia 🥳.
Taking part in this event also means supporting a Colombian association that helps the most disadvantaged. For more than 20 years, the Fundación Campeones del Futuro has been changing lives through sport and education in Colombia’s Pacific region: Quibdo, Cali, Buenaventura, Tumaco, and Guapi. You’re running for a good cause on top of everything else 💖. It adds a special flavor to a weekend that already promises to be memorable 😁.
To extend the experience, don’t leave the city without a visit to Barrio San Antonio 🏘️ for its colonial charm, or a trip to the Cristo Rey Monument overlooking the valley. If you’ve still got some strength left in your legs 🦵, a salsa initiation is mandatory (it’s local law—or almost 😅). For your taste buds, treat yourself to a refreshing Lulada or some Aborrajados to recharge your batteries 🔋. That’s the spirit of the Pacific, too: run hard, and live even harder! 💪
