Looking for a challenge, but also relaxation? 🧘 Then welcome to Bourbonne-les-Bains, this small town in the Haute-Marne department is waiting just for you 🥰. It’s true it isn’t especially used to welcoming runners 🏃♀️, but rather spa guests 🧖♂️. Bourbonne-les-Bains is one of the largest thermal spa resorts in France—it's even the second-largest thermal spa resort in the Grand Est region 🛁. It welcomes nearly 6,000 spa guests each year, ready to enjoy the benefits of the thermal waters, especially for joints and the respiratory tract 🫁. That’s perfect, because runners’ joints really need it. Between massages and hydrojet baths, the town is offering a brand-new program: the Thermes de Bourbonne-Les-Bains Half Marathon 🤠. Here, the saying “after effort comes comfort” will never have been so true! 🙆♀️ Everything is within reach to work out—and to rest 🥵. Speaking of well-being, other people’s well-being matters too 🤝. The Thermes de Bourbonne-les-Bains Half Marathon has a charitable spirit: each edition highlights one or more organizations, which receive a share of registration revenue 🎗️. Your strides will weigh a little heavier in the balance… without weighing down your legs!
In partnership with the Haute-Marne attractiveness agency and the HMRun52 running club, Bourbonne-les-Bains is organizing its half marathon 🤗. This famous 21.097 km distance is attracting more and more runners, both recreational and experienced 👟. The small special feature here is that the race takes the form of three loops of about 10 km, 6 km and 5 km➰. Thanks to this format, participants can choose to run the race as a relay 👯♂️, in groups of two or three people. It’s even possible to do it in an escadrille 👥, meaning the first runner will set off for the 21 km, then the second will join them on the second loop, and finally the last person will finish the journey with them on the third loop 😉. Juniors also have their races the day before, over 400 m, 1.5 km and 3 km, while walkers head out on an 8 km heritage walk to discover the old stones of the spa town 🗺️. Enough to bring the whole family along! And to guide their strides, runners can count on one of the best-known voices in road running, Patrick Montel! 🎙️ He’ll be part of this big celebration and will meet participants, listening to the best sporting stories 📜. One thing not to overlook: this is the only half marathon in Haute-Marne!
This event and this town therefore have many strengths 👀, but we’re not going to reveal them all to you... 😋 Well, yes—one, at least! 😎 Along your route, you’re going to meet some unusual companions, thanks to the La Bannie Wildlife Park 🐾. It’s at the heart of the course and is home to species such as red deer, fallow deer, and hinds... 🦌 Not exactly common running buddies! 😄
You’re smiling, aren’t you? 👄 After all your efforts you’re finally a finisher; you’re part of the half-marathoner family, and that’s no small thing 🏅. But after all those emotions 💌, don’t neglect the recovery step. You’re in the perfect place for that—the thermal water is waiting for you 💧. At last, you’ll be able to breathe with full lungs! 🍃 Once you’ve regained the necessary strength 🧨, you can go for a little stroll in Langres 🚶➡️. It’s a town known for its ramparts, witnesses to its history 🏰. Visitors can walk all the way along them and discover the architecture and the commune’s lush green landscapes 🌿.
Open your lungs wide and get ready to breathe in the fresh air very deeply during this Thermes de Bourbonne-les-Bains Half Marathon! 🌼
What a pleasure to run in such a charming small town! 🥰 You’ll start the race from Georges Fréset Street, close to the heart of Bourbonne-les-Bains. Besides, you’ll never really leave the surroundings of the town, so you can keep things flat 🛣️. Off you go, ready to show off your best stride through charming little lanes like Amiral Pierre Street, Bourgogne Street, or Ferrat Street 🏃➡️. You’ll of course pass by the Parc animalier de la Bannie 🦌, a small haven of peace for its visitors, and also for its regular residents 🐾. The icing on the cake is a section through the Parc du Château 🏰, beautifully in bloom, especially at this time of year 💐. The route is the perfect balance between nature and the town! Just a few more meters and you’ll finally arrive at Place des Bains to celebrate the end of your journey. Congratulations—becoming a half-marathoner is no small feat... 🏅
The more, the merrier! 😁It's a saying that works very well for the Bourbonne-les-Bains Half Marathon, which can be run as a two- or three-person relay, or in squadrons 👯♂️. The small difference with the squadron format is that the first runner will set off for the entire half marathon 💪, the second will join them for the second and final loop, and the third only for the last loop 🤠. Unlike the relay, runners who choose the squadron format finish the race together 🙏.

For two-person teams:
The relay handover is done using the chipped bib during the first 10 km loop. Runner 2 completes loops 2 and 3 (about 11 km). For the escadrille, runner 1 wears the bib and picks up their partner after 10 km in the relay zone, then both set off together to complete loop 2 of 6 km and finish with loop 3 of 5 km.
For three-person teams:
It works the same as the two-person relay, except that here the last loop is completed by the third and final team member. For the escadrille, runner 1 wears the bib and picks up partner 2 in the relay zone, then they complete the 6 km loop and pick up partner 3 to finish the 5 km loop all together.
Four aid stations are set up every 5 km along the course. You’ll find fruit, water, soda, almonds, and gingerbread.
