Here's one from Drôme for a trail...
Indeed, in the department of Drôme, in the region of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, a small team embarked on an ambitious project 💪. The association "Le Footing Rambertois" is organizing, for the third edition, a running event aiming to highlight the site of the Tour d’Albon, the hills 🏞️ and the forests 🌳 of Anneyron as well as the Bluebeard's Castle 🏰. It's at the beginning of summer 😎, in June, that you can set off for the Trail de la Tour. So expect a beautiful sun ☀️ and pleasant temperatures 🌡️ to welcome you 👐. The organizers are playful 😬, so there will be two trails waiting for you depending on your desires: a 9 km and a 17 km with elevations ranging from 250 mD+ to 600 mD+ for a late afternoon start 🌅. So, do you think you have the strong enough thighs to take on this challenge 💪?
It's between the village 🏠 and the pond 🎣 that the organization invites you, in early afternoon, to the zone of the Argentelle water plan 📍. A base for sports activities 🏃🏼♂️ and a place of orienteering 🧭, this equipped space is the perfect spot to discover fun activities. For a day, it’s the trail enthusiasts who will be in the spotlight 😄. Because yes, you'll have the choice between two routes on hilly paths. 250 mD+ await you on the 9 km route that starts at 7 PM, and where you can see the famous Tour d’Albon. Long perched on its earthen mound, it was for a long time the only visible vestige of the power of the counts of Albon 👑, ancestors of Alexander... 🏎️ (it's not true). But this community is defined by more than its tower. The work of archaeologists 🔎 has shed light on an exceptional medieval site 🙌 comprising a chapel and a palatial building. This archaeological site 🦴 will therefore have an eye on the trail runners running the shorter distance, but not only...
Indeed, the runners of the 17 km will also go through the castle site starting at 6:30 PM (departure time). With 600 mD+, this course between fauna 🐆 and flora 🌸 will make you travel back in time 🕰️ and give you a glimpse of the landscapes during the time of the lords ⚔️. We hope you love the medieval era, because the second highlights of the race is none other than the Mantaille Castle 🏰, or at least, what remains of it... Confusing factual history with the tales of Perrault, the Mantaille Castle was also called the Bluebeard’s Castle, due to a reputation for debauchery 🫣. Well, what we can tell you is that if you love climbing, trails, single tracks, but also panoramic views, you will be delighted! 🤝 Children also have their moment of glory, with 3 distances based on their age 👶.
If you're not available at this time of the year 😢, but you enjoy this type of exercise, we can suggest the Upiennes’ Race in January, the Goat Trail in April, or the Trail in Côte-Rôtie, in October. If you prefer tarmac, the Bourg-Lès-Valence Half Marathon will surely satisfy you. On the culinary side... 🍽️ This department holds some treasures (but not chocolate 🍫, unless you visit Valrhona). With its orange blossom flavor, the Swiss, both crunchy and soft shortbread cookie, is indeed a specialty 🇫🇷. If orange blossom is your guilty pleasure, there’s also the pogne de Romans, a traditional plump and fragrant brioche 🥮 to enjoy liberally with its fine crumb like a feuilletine 😋. Finally, for wine enthusiasts, Anneyron is near the Saint-Joseph and Crozes-Hermitage cellars, perfect for a small tasting session 🍷.
All champions come to challenge themselves in Anneyron!
With 17 km and 600 mD+ (still! 🥵), this event is the longest of the Trail de La Tour competition. You'll start at 6:30 PM to enjoy the coolness and the golden hour of the late afternoon 🤳. What a panorama! 🌞
But let's talk a little about the trail! It has everything a trail expert like you could hope for 🔥: paths, singles, tracks, technical descents, and climbs that really work your legs 🦵. But don't get discouraged (especially since we know you love this 😏) because the setting is just as exciting as the race. Starting from the Argentelle leisure base in Anneyron, the trail will take you to the famous Tour d’Albon and some of the most beautiful medieval and archaeological gems of the region, like the Château de Mantaille 🏰.
Come on, strap on your noble steed your shoes and show what you're capable of! 🏇
With its 9 km and 250 mD+, this event is the most accessible of the Trail de La Tour competition.
Just like the 17 km trail, you will start at 6:30 PM from the Argentelle leisure base in Anneyron to enjoy the coolness and the golden hour of the end of the day (don't forget the photos 📸). This short trail still offers everything you might expect from a nature race: pathways, single tracks, track, technical descent, and small hills, while remaining accessible to beginners 👍. What a boon! Plus, the archaeology and history enthusiast in you will be delighted to know that the route is dotted with beautiful gems such as the Tower of Albon and the Mantaille castle 🏰.
Onwards, Indiana! 🤠
