Ultra Mediterrania
This is the story of a group of amigos who love running and, during the Covid-19 pandemic, roamed the trails of their favorite mountains ⛰️, in the Alicante province, south of Valencia, in Spain 🇪🇸. One fine day, they decided they shouldn't be so selfish and needed to share these amazing caminos with others (oops, that's not Spanish! 😜). So, since they are a bit crazy, they ventured into creating an event 📍. Not just a small 20 km trail, no, but a 100 miles! 🏃♀️ If you're going to dive into the deep baño 🛁, you might as well go into the ocean directly!
With 25 years of experience in athletics and trail running, the amigos imagine everything runners would want from their event, all while keeping two core values at the heart of their approach: respect and solidarity 🤝. And since they also have a knack for marketing, they name their race with an easily memorable name: Ultra Mediterrania 🌊. Vale! They're now organizers of an ambitious ultra trail that brings together a total of 15 municipalities and 4 regions, circling the city of Alcoy. You'll be running in full nature, a feast for your eyes 😍. Just like at a good Spanish table, there's something for every appetite! 😋 The Ultra Mediterrania offers no less than seven courses, each with its own unique flavor. The most effort-hungry will be thrilled with the XXL menu: an ultra hard course of 162 km and 8,050 mD+ passing through 10 peaks over 1000 meters of altitude 📈, reserved for those with strong guts 😵💫. Slightly more manageable but still challenging, the 90 km with its 4,400 mD+ plunges you into a long adventure 🥱. The 55 km and 2,200 mD+ offer the perfect balance between intensity and pleasure, allowing you to fully enjoy the region's terrain without being completely consumed by the mountain 😅. For fans of shorter, but equally spicy formats, there's the 25 km (1,200 mD+), the 16 km (580 mD+), or even the 11 km (250 mD+) which can be done in a joëlette. And finally, the cherry (a spicy one) on the cake 🍰: a 4 km vertical climb with 450 mD+ to ascend in one go 🥵. It's up to you to choose your main dish, but one thing is certain: whatever your format, you'll taste the trail Ultra Mediterrania spirit.
Once your medal is around your neck, you can also indulge off the trails because the region of Valencia and Alicante is full of wonders ✨. In the middle of January, while your amigos are indulging in fondue and raclette during their ski vacation ⛷️, you'll be able to tease them by tanning your face on a restaurant terrace 😎 in front of bajoques farcides (stuffed peppers 🫑), a borreta (cod stew with potatoes and spinach), an olleta alcoyana (a kind of cassoulet 😋), or a pericana (made with peppers and dried fish). Once full, you can explore Alcoy: Plaza de España, the archaeological museum, Art Nouveau city, medieval towers... 😍 And if you have some energy left after your race, you can go hiking in the Serra de Mariola natural parks and the Font Roja 🌳.
Venga ya, quickly register for the Ultra Mediterrania!
This is THE queen race of the Ultra Mediterrania 👸, one that demands unwavering physical and mental endurance 🙇♀️, as well as iron calves! 🦿 Starting from the Polytechnic University, you'll leave the city of Alcoy to take on the mountains ⛰️. You'll follow a jagged profile, tough on the legs and quite technical, leading you through 15 towns and villages and to the top of about ten mountains over 1000 m. It's a true tourist adventure you'll experience throughout these 100 Spanish miles and 8,600 mD+ 📈.
This stage race invites you to complete 3 races: the 55 km, the 25 km and the 4 km vertical km 📈.
Starting from Muro de Alcoy, you will cover the last 55 kilometers of the 100-mile race 🏃♂️. On the agenda: a zigzag route, both fast and technical, which will take you through the mountains and the villages of Agres, Cocentaina and finally to the center of Alcoy where you will cross the finish line 🏁. A mountain marathon that requires great speed skills and a seasoned foot to fully enjoy the challenging course ! 😬
On Sunday, in Alcoy, it's trail running for everyone! With this short format of 25 km and 1,200 mD+ accessible to the most, the Ultra Mediterrania allows you to discover the surroundings of the city through a fast course ⚡️. You'll need to sharpen your legs to run on this track that condenses everything a trailer needs to know: running on smooth and technical trails, but also climbing and descending 😅.
A popular and inclusive race that highlights running in all its most supportive and friendly aspects! 😊 The course starts from the Polytechnic University in Alcoy and spreads across the municipal territory. An intense event for speed enthusiasts and really enjoyable for those who just want to run for fun 👍.
Starting from Alcoy, this 11 km race is open to handisports, specifically for joëlettes🧑🦽.
At sunset, while the trail runners continue to tackle a challenging course, you can take on the vertical race of 4 km and 450 m elevation gain starting from Benyeres de Mariola 🪜. On the agenda: a climb to Penya la Blasca, followed by a thrilling descent back to the village. An intense challenge that should set your thighs on fire! 🔥
