WINTER RUN Ostrava 2027

The event in a few words

Looking for the perfect excuse not to give up on winter training—and you also don’t want to spend long hours traveling? Winter Run Ostrava is an absolute logistical bullseye for runners from Poland. This winter race from the iconic Czech series takes place literally “just over the fence,” offering a fantastic atmosphere, crisp Moravian air, and a solid dose of running endorphins.

In the Ostrava edition of this winter classic, competitors take on two dynamic distances: 4 km and the main 8 km race (Winter Run). The race base and the charming, flat course are most often located in Komenského Sady – a huge, green (and in winter, fairy-tale white) city park stretching along the banks of the Ostravice River. Snow crunching underfoot, winter chill, and passionate cheering at the finish line guarantee unforgettable эмоtions. After the race, you’ll warm up with a mug of steaming tea and collect the series’ signature heavy medal featuring a winter predator motif.

Winter running can really drain your energy. As soon as the first start-line emotions subside, Ostrava—a city with an incredible industrial character—will offer you perfect spots for a winter reset and to warm up:

A steampunk winter in Dolní Vítkovice (DOV): This former steelworks and coking plant in winter, when steam rises above the metal structures, looks downright unreal. It’s a must-see. Take the glass elevator to the top of the blast furnace—to the Bolt Tower café—to admire the city’s industrial panorama and the snow-capped peaks of the nearby Beskids over hot chocolate or coffee 🏗️.

The view from the tower of the New City Hall (Nová radnice): Located right next to the race route, the city hall building boasts the tallest clock tower in the Czech Republic (85 meters). From the viewing terrace, you can see the entire route of your run in Komenského Sady and check how the winter weather paints the city’s riverside landscape 🏛️.

Warming up in Ostrava’s cafés: Ostrava’s city center hides plenty of wonderfully cozy, alternative cafés (especially around Masarykovo náměstí). After a freezing effort, there’s nothing better than retreating into a warm interior with a cup of excellent specialty coffee and a slice of homemade cake ☕.

Hearty Silesian-Moravian cuisine: After burning hundreds of calories in the cold, it’s time for some serious refueling. A traditional pub will treat you to the iconic garlic soup (česnečka) with croutons and cheese, which will get you back on your feet instantly. For the main course, order Slezský vrabec (roast pork served with cabbage and two kinds of dumplings). The whole thing is perfectly rounded off with a mug of bold local beer—Radegast or Ostravar 🍲🍻.

Pack a warm hat and gloves and head out for a quick winter getaway just across the border to run for your trophy at Winter Run in Ostrava!
