Roll up your sleeves, here you run against the elements!

Welcome to department 50, this peninsula at the end of the world where the land seems to dive into the sea to cool off. If you're looking to do some trail running in the Manche, get ready for a salty adventure on the Cotentin peninsula that will clear your lungs better than any syrup 🌬️. Here, we're in Normandy, but the landscape has a "Little Ireland" air with its stone walls and green pastures that contrast with the blue of the ocean. It's a land of character where the wind sculpts calves and where every outing is an epic worthy of the greatest Viking explorers 🛶.

The geography here is a blessing for runners who love to mix things up without necessarily climbing to the skies. With its 350 kilometers of coastline, you'll wear out your shoes on the legendary GR223, the famous Sentier des Douaniers, which once offered smugglers an unbeatable view 🔭. It's the ideal spot for a nature run or seaside run, where you'll alternate between wild dunes, breathtaking cliffs like those at Nez de Jobourg, and historic D-Day beaches 🏖️. Don't forget that Saint-Lô, the prefecture, was nicknamed the "Capital of Ruins" after 1944, a testament to the incredible resilience of this part of France. You'll also traverse the Norman bocage, a maze of hedges that will shelter you from gusts while connecting you to deep rurality 🚜.

Did you know that Mont Saint-Michel, this marvel of the West, is officially Norman thanks to the whims of the Couesnon river? As the local saying goes: "Le Couesnon en sa folie a mis le Mont en Normandie", much to the chagrin of our Breton friends 🌊. Speaking of madness, you must have a grain (of sand) to face the elements here, much like Guillaume Ruel. This ultra-runner from Valognes and French 100 km record holder has forged his steel mind on these wet and windy lands 🏃. As for recovery, you'll be well catered with Saint-Vaast-la-Hougue oysters or salt-marsh lamb, whose meat is naturally seasoned by the sea spray 🐑. And if you need an energy boost, a slice of Teurgoule, this rice and cinnamon dessert, will give you the energy needed to tackle the leg-breaking elevation of the Suisse Normande overflowing into the department ⛰️.

The trail calendar in the Manche is as dense as the local cream, offering challenges for all profiles. It’s impossible not to mention La Barjo, an institution aptly named that takes you through the wildest landscapes of the Hague in a charged atmosphere 🤪. If you want to feel like a Norse warrior, Ragnar's Diabolik at Herqueville will immerse you in the Viking world with natural obstacles and a unique atmosphere 🛡️. For speed and sand enthusiasts, Urban trail of Villedieu-les-Poêles is a must-see that will have you running to the rhythm of the tides ⏳. You can also test your limits on the Trail of the Bay Bocage, or the APE-roc for a more forested outing in the heart of the department 🌟.

Here, there’s no fuss, you're welcomed with the simplicity and warmth of the people from the North... well, the North-West. Whether you come for a timed race in the Manche or just for the joy of running in the sea spray, you'll leave with memories plenty and perhaps a bit of mud on your legs 🌧️. Don't forget your raincoat, because as in the movie "The Umbrellas of Cherbourg", the weather can be unpredictable, but that's what makes the region so charming ☔. This is the perfect time to step out of your comfort zone and come face the magnificent harshness of the Cotentin.
