Surrounded by natural parks and bordering Gironde, the department of Dordogne is known for its gentle way of life. The beauty and diversity of its natural landscapes and rich historical heritage make you really want to go for a run 🏃🏼‍♀️.

The Dordogne is one of the largest French departments in terms of area, ranking third in France 🇫🇷 behind Gironde and the Landes. The Southwest seems to love wide open spaces! That's good because so do we! No wonder 7,000 kilometers of marked trails cross the department... Walkers and runners who love nature, the Dordogne seems to have been made for you.

To start, let's head to the banks of the Isle, a tributary of the Dordogne that crosses Périgueux, the prefecture of 24. Just mentioning its name makes one salivate: after all, we're talking about a place known for duck breast and foie gras. To say that Monbazillac, its castle and vineyards 🍇 are not far... Maybe we should have finished there instead of starting the tour 😅... Let's embrace it! You'll enjoy the mild climate of the region and the beauty of the streets in this city of art and history. Another very pleasant town in the Dordogne is Bergerac. Known, of course, for its wine 🍷... Cyrano de Bergerac is a character in love with life and an epicurean, we wonder why. The region is filled with medieval villages. Let's mention Beynac-et-Cazenac and its castle overlooking the Dordogne river valley, or Brantôme, Monpazier... Magnificent 😍. A bit of nature? If you head towards the Causse du Quercy Regional and Geopark, located in the Lot, you'll encounter the famous Lascaux cave site. The Vézère Valley is full of historical and prehistoric treasures to discover. The gentle hills of the Dordogne Valley also await you. Maybe with a family canoe 🛶 session 👨‍👩‍👦‍👦? With 600 km of rivers spread across its territory, the Dordogne is indeed also known for its water activities, similar to the Ardèche. North of Périgueux, the Périgord-Limousin Regional Natural Park offers a variety of terrains for your runs: forests, wetlands, moorlands...

Let's take a few minutes to look at the trail schedule in Dordogne. The Marathon Trail des Forts du Périgord is a great opportunity to have a nice race with friends, especially since the organizers have even thought to offer several relay race formats. Shall we share? The circuit takes you on a tour through forests, featuring castles and cliffs... The Ronde des Vignes de Lamonzie-Saint-Martin lives up to its name and offers runners all the wine heritage 🍷 of the region around Lamonzie-Saint-Martin, near Bergerac. Walkers will be able to join the runners in the Trail de Pécharmant. The starting point is at the Château de Roc de Creysse before getting lost in the countryside. A night race is even planned for enthusiasts. We love it 🌙 🔦! The Trail des Mouflons gives you the chance to discover the lovely setting of the Gorges de l'Auvezère, located near the Corrèze. Several formats of discovery trails and short trails are offered, so there's something to suit everyone... before enjoying yourself 😀.

Go live your life like Cyrano.
