Race Timing in Annecy

It's the question we all ask: how long does each participant take to complete their race? 🤔 That's the whole point of race timing, which measures the time from start to finish to establish the rankings. Long done by hand with a stopwatch, it is now electronic ⏱️. Chips attached to the bib, the shoe or the bike are automatically detected on the ground as participants pass. In practice, this system relies on timing mats equipped with RFID antennas, laid on the ground at the start line, the finish line and intermediate checkpoints: each chip emits a unique frequency picked up to the thousandth of a second, guaranteeing flawlessly accurate rankings. It is also thanks to this system that we can distinguish the official time (calculated from the start signal) from the real time, which only starts when you cross the line, very handy when you start at the back of the pack!
