Bienvenidos to Ibiza! The most party sporty island in the Balearic archipelago 🗾. That’s right! Ibiza isn’t just an island where you party—it’s also a sporty island 🔥. So we’ve found the ideal race for you: the Ibiza Marathon 🏃. The bonus is that you can choose from 3 different distances: the 12 km, for those who want to sprint; the 22 km, for those who’ll have to juggle endurance and speed; and the 42 km, for the craziest—or the most motivated 😌. You’ll see, the Santa Eulària Ibiza Marathon is a must on the Spanish running scene 🇪🇦, renowned for its great beauty and its difficulty. In total, more than 7,000 runners are expected across all distances 😮. Come on, we’ll tell you everything 👇. Let’s take a pill a run in Ibiza!
It’s in spring, right in the middle of April, that this event will take place 🌸. That means you’ll enjoy the best possible weather conditions: under a big sun with a pleasant little breeze! 🌬️You’ll still need plenty of water 🥤 and strength to get through these tough races. In fact, the Ibiza marathon will take place in the middle of the afternoon 🥵. What’s more, it takes place on an extremely hilly—even mountainous ⛰️—island, to the point that the entire first part of your race will be uphill 📈. Then, you’ll head back down to the seaside 🌊, to Santa Eularia des Riu 🏁. The 30K wall will therefore be right in the middle of your descent towards the finish line 😳. This marathon is thus technical, demanding, hot and tough and requires good preparation 💪. The 22 km in Ibiza, which starts in Santa Gertrudis, is run entirely on negative elevation gain 📉, while the 12 km has 2 nice climbs in store for you (less intense and less long than those of the marathon, obviously 😌).
For those who are starting to get discouraged, you should also know that as well as being difficult, the Santa Eulària Ibiza Marathon is also one of the most beautiful that exist in the Mediterranean 😍. Yes: with its succession of towns, nature and seaside, you’ll travel through the island’s different vibes. You, who’ve spent most of your time in the city’s nightclubs 🕺, will be dazzled by its striking beauty and lush nature 🌴. Who can top that? The organizers, of course! ✋ We’re in Ibiza📍, so you can imagine the races will be anything but dull. Entertainment such as bands 🥁, costumes 🦸♀️ and performances are planned all along the routes.
David Guetta can wait! 🎶 It’s time to taste the vida loca at the Santa Eulària Ibiza Marathon! 🤪
Ready to discover the jewel of the Balearic Islands? 🗾 Then the Santa Eulària Ibiza Marathon is perfect for the explorer you are 🤠.
Get your cap ready—you’ll be starting in the middle of the afternoon (3:30 p.m.) 🥵 from the Paseo Marítimo de Port d'Eivissa ⛵, in the Vila area, which offers an exceptional view over the historic city, the castle of Dalt Vila and the marina ⚓. Expect that it won’t just be your head heating up, since the race ahead features a lot of elevation gain (ouch, the legs 🦵🔥).
You’ll set off on the Camí Vell de Sant Mateu, a rural area that contrasts ⚡ with the city’s rich, exuberant atmosphere. Hold on tight, because this section is the one with the most elevation gain on the course 🥵. In fact, it’s from km 7 that you’ll begin your climb up to Santa Gertrudis, located at km 21. It starts off strong! However, you’ll enjoy exceptional panoramas for almost the entire first half of your race, which should help you push past your limits 💪.
It’s in Santa Gertrudis, the starting point of the half-marathon, that you’ll begin the second part of your 42 km. You’ll enter "the most authentic area of the island" 🤌. The large white houses and pedestrian streets of the town surely won’t leave you indifferent... 🥰
Make the most of it, because you’ll quickly leave this beautiful sun-drenched town 🌞 behind to start gently descending toward the sea 🌊, from km 25. On the way, you’ll be able to admire the many pine trees 🌲 that have taken over this rural stretch of the island. Be careful not to get too distracted, though! You’ll need to support your legs well on this descent and get ready to face the 30 km wall.
Once back in town, and more specifically in Puig d'en Missa and Santa Eulària des Riu, you’ll take the main roads that run along the seafront to the cheers of supporters 📣👏. We hope they’ll be able to give you back the courage and energy to tackle your final straight: the one that starts from Es Canar beach and takes you all the way to Santa Eulària des Riu, the finish line 🏁.
Your Finisher medal and a view of the Mediterranean are yours 🫶. By the way, if you feel like seeing it up close, you can dash to the beach—it’s right next door! 😜
Half-marathoners will be delighted to rush to the 22 km of Ibiza! 😊
It’s in Santa Gertrudis that the half-marathon begins, a typical, traditional town on the island, bursting with charm 🥰. You’ll set off full of energy 🔋 and start wandering through the cobbled pedestrian streets and between the white houses. Fortunately, you won’t have many elevation changes to tackle before starting your descent toward the seaside 🌊. You’ll need to stay alert and protect your ankles! ⚠️
All along the way, you’ll be able to admire the pine forests 🌲 that cover this rural part of the island, all while enjoying breathtaking panoramas 🤩. You’ll then reach Puig d'en Missa, an iconic spot on the island, before entering Santa Eulària des Riu via its main roads and following its coastline. You’ll then be able to go all out for the final sprint 🚀 leading to the finish line located at the port 🛟, cheered on by the crowd 👏.
Come on, now vamos a la playa, it’s right there! 🏖️
12 km is the tiny distance of the Santa Eulària Ibiza Marathon, perfect for the most modest runners 😇.
As with the marathon, this race will start in Santa Eulària des Riu and more specifically at Marina Santa Eulalia. This seaside town 💦, full of charm, will be the backdrop to your challenge.
Indeed, this loop through the town will first take you along wide, flat, accessible streets and let you see some of the island’s iconic spots 🌅. You’ll see, for example, Platja d'Es Canar, Punta Arabí or the promenade of Santa Eulària des Riu, which are must-sees in Ibiza 📍.
Watch out ⚠️: there are two nice climbs to note on the course. Get ready to climb a bit... And to enjoy it—it's rare by the sea! 😜
Kids will be invited to the party too! 🥳 The "Santa Eulària Ibiza Kids Run Caixabank" will start at Marina Santa Eulària at 10:00 a.m. and welcome children from 2 to 14 years old 🤓. Distances will vary depending on age group: 🧒
