Forget the dancefloors for two minutes. A jewel of the Balearics, the island unfurls turquoise coves, cliffside trails and a UNESCO-listed old town. Road, trail, triathlon: in Ibiza, you sweat in the daytime too 🏝️.
Head for the Mediterranean Sea, due east of the peninsula, to the largest of the Pityusic Islands. Ibiza — Eivissa to those in the know — sits at the heart of the Balearic Islands, its fortified old town of Dalt Vila crowned by a castle watching over the harbor 🌅. The island is divided into five municipalities: Eivissa the capital, Santa Eulària des Riu by the sea, Sant Antoni de Portmany and its sunsets, Sant Josep de sa Talaia on the south side, and Sant Joan de Labritja in the quiet north. Across the way, Formentera plays the turquoise little sister. That’s the backdrop for your running races in Ibiza, far from the dancefloor clichés.
The playground fits in a handkerchief, but what a handkerchief. Trails run along the cliff edges, dive toward the coves of Cala Comte and Cala d'Hort, and weave beneath the pines that gave the islands their name 🌲. The high point, Sa Talaia, tops out at 475 meters—enough climbing without wrecking your thighs ⛰️. In the south, the Ses Salines park lines up its salt marshes where flamingos pop up, while underwater the UNESCO-listed Posidonia seagrass meadows keep the sea crystal clear 🌊. Offshore, the rock of Es Vedrà stands watch, surrounded by its legends. Up in the sky, the island runs on sunshine three hundred days a year, with winters so mild that bibs come out as early as February ☀️. You run in the cool while the clubs sleep, and you keep summer for the beach.
Time for bibs, in every format. The Santa Eulària Marathon rolls out its 12, 22, or 42 km in spring, in a festive spirit paced by bands and costumes 🏃. In February, the Ibiza Half Marathon follows the south-west coast, from Sa Caleta to the salt flats, on a course built for performance. In autumn, the Ibiza Trail Festival takes on the cliffs of Sant Antoni with up to 48 km of trails. In November, the 3 Días Trail Ibiza-Ultra spreads six races over three days, up to a 73 km ultra that crosses Dalt Vila at nightfall. Triathletes, meanwhile, take on the Ibiza Half Triathlon and its half-Ironman format. That’s your race in the Balearics, from festive asphalt to wild rock.
The place defies its reputation as just a party destination. Proof on the half marathon: Kenyan Nehemiah Kipyegon clocked 21 km in 1:00:37, a sky-high time that reminds you people also come here to fly. Culturally, the island invented Adlib fashion and its airy white outfits, keeps the hippie markets of Las Dalias alive, then raised temples of the night like Pacha and Amnesia where David Guetta makes the planet dance 🕺. The heritage goes way back: Dalt Vila and its hilltop cathedral, the Phoenician necropolis of Puig des Molins, the remains of Sa Caleta set on the sea. After the effort, you tuck into a properly briny bullit de peix, bite into a flaó scented with mint, and sip a small glass of hierbas ibicencas 🍸.
So, what vibe are you going for? Beginners jog the 12 km or the nighttime 10 km, road runners target the half or the marathon, trail runners throw themselves into the cliffs of Sant Antoni, triathletes dive into the Ibiza T100 facing the harbor 🏊. Open the island’s running calendar, choose your discipline, then go for it: in Ibiza, you run first, you dance after 🤙.
A next-gen platform helping sports enthusiasts of all levels discover territories and heritage through races tailored to them.
