Marathon de Bologne

The event in a few words

Welcome to the Bologna Marathon! ๐ŸคŒ Set in the capital of the Emilia-Romagna region, in Italy, you're about to start your race in the exceptional setting of the city of Bologna ๐Ÿ–ผ๏ธ. The event takes place on the first weekend of March, right in the heart of the historic center โค๏ธ. Known as "the city of Porticos", this ancient medieval city boasts several exceptional monuments ๐Ÿคฉ, including its legendary arcades, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site! ๐ŸŒ For its third edition, the event is making a comeback at Piazza Maggiore and aims to energize the alleyways of Bologna with its thousands of participants (and of course, we're counting you in ๐Ÿ˜‰)!

Lace up your sneakers ๐Ÿ‘Ÿ and hurry to train ๐Ÿƒ for one of the 4 distances offered on the day of the Bologna Marathon ๐Ÿค“. You can choose from the main event of the day, the "42 km Bologna Marathon", or opt for the "30 km Dei Portici", the "21 km Unipol Move Run Tune Up", or even the "5 km Tecnocasa City Run". All routes will have the same start and finish point: the Piazza Maggiore! This majestic square will welcome all runners and see them off on their journey starting from Via Indipendenza ๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ. You will then discover the rich cultural heritage of Bologna "La Rossa" (in reference to its numerous red walls ๐ŸŸฅ). The courses are very flat ๐ŸŽ๏ธ with many straight lines and very little elevation gain, allowing you to speed up ๐Ÿš€ and breeze through to the finish line ๐Ÿ where the Italian supporters will be there to cheer you on in your final efforts ๐ŸŽ‰. This marathon will take you through all the iconic neighborhoods and landmarks of the city: a true sightseeing tour! ๐Ÿงญ The Bologna Marathon event also hosts the Bologna Half Marathon, a historic race celebrating its 20th edition ๐ŸŽ‚. It's a real runner's rendezvous in the making! ๐Ÿ˜ And to ensure the sporting weekend is accessible to everyone, you can even join the 5 km course, which takes you right into the heart ๐Ÿ’– of the capital of Bolognese sauce ๐Ÿ. But be careful not to stop along the way to indulge in one! ๐Ÿ‘€ By signing up for this race, you can choose to be part of the charity program "Run5000" ๐ŸŽ—๏ธ and run for a cause ๐Ÿ‘•. It's an opportunity to do some good and support one of the 13 partner associations of the event ๐Ÿ’ช. Open to all, including walkers, this race will only further highlight the festive and friendly atmosphere awaiting you in Bologna ๐Ÿฅณ.

You might as well plan to stay a bit longer in the area! ๐Ÿ“ While the race offers a glimpse of the city's most beautiful monuments and neighborhoods, we highly recommend you take the time to explore at a more leisurely pace ๐Ÿฆต to enjoy the wonders of Bologna. You'll already have spent a fair amount of time at Piazza Maggiore, but with the crowd on marathon day, it's hard to appreciate just how impressive it is! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ Close by is the city's oldest university ๐ŸŽ“. This Renaissance-style building is worth visiting if you're looking to marvel at such architecture ๐Ÿซ. Now that your race is over, no need to watch your step! ๐Ÿ˜œ So, look up and admire the Asinelli and Garisenda towers ๐Ÿ™๏ธ. If your legs allow it, you can even climb the nearly 500 steps of the Asinelli Tower ๐Ÿ“ˆ for a panoramic view of the entire Bolognese city ๐Ÿ“ธ. And because we know that for every runner, pasta is sacred ๐Ÿคค, we can only recommend you try the tagliatelle "al ragรน" from Bologna "La Grassa" ๐Ÿ. It's another nickname for the city, and you'll understand why after experiencing its culinary richness! ๐Ÿฒ

We know your mouth is watering, so come run the Bologna Marathon! ๐Ÿ˜Ž

4 reasons to join this race

Its Historical Heart โ›ช
Regarded as one of Italy's most delightful cities, boasting one of the largest medieval centers, Bologna is the perfect destination ๐Ÿ˜Ž. As you run through its streets, you're in for a treat with its uniquely historical alleyways, but you'll likely be tempted to extend your trip. Less trodden than other Italian cities, you'll be charmed by this city that reveals itself easily on foot over a weekend ๐Ÿฅฐ.
Diving into Italian Culture ๐ŸคŒ
Bologna promises an unforgettable journey into the heart of Italy โค๏ธ. With its rich culture and historical heritage, no less than 50 museums await to unveil every corner of the city's history. Take our word for it: you won't be disappointed! ๐Ÿคฉ Starting this race, you simply cannot miss out on the main cultural sites like the oldest university in the Western world, or the Bologna Cinematheque and its impressive Chaplin collection ๐ŸŽฅ.
Supporting a Good Cause ๐ŸŽ—๏ธ
By signing up for this event, you also have the option to support a charity ๐Ÿ’ฐ. There are no fewer than 16 organizations partnered with the race, especially for the 5 km format. Indeed, you have the opportunity to sign up for the "5 km Tecnocasa City Run" and at the same time, financially support an organization and run under its banner! ๐Ÿ‘• It's a chance to enjoy a shorter race format without the pressure of time, all while aiding those in need ๐Ÿ˜‰.
Savoring a True Bolognese ๐Ÿ
The Bolognese sauce is a sacred dish in Bologna. Known locally as "ragรน", the dish is essentially a sauce made of pork and veal served with fresh tagliatelle ๐Ÿคค. We can tell you that there's no shortage of restaurants offering authentic Bolognese dishes there! And the taste is guaranteed. Given that Italians are great lovers of all kinds of pasta, the Bolognese take this dish very seriously. One thing's for sure, you're in for a treat! ๐Ÿ˜‹
