If you think you’ve already seen it all when it comes to marathons in France, listen to what we’ve dug up for you 🦻. In June, the Cap d’Agde Sunset Marathon offers you a fresh take on the marathon format through night and semi-night 🌙 courses. Forget long-distance races on scorching asphalt at 11am—you’ll be able to wait calmly until the sun hides in the distance before setting off through the streets of Cap d’Agde 🌅. And because our friends from the south have thought of everyone, you’ll find 10K, 21K, and 42K options on site. It’s up to you to choose your playground 🛝.
For those who have never been down to the south of France 🇫🇷, picture wide stretches of golden sand, an endless turquoise sea, and palm-lined avenues edging the road 🌴. Add to that a warm, salty air that smells like vacation 🪼, a few trendy clubs to dance all night long, and you’ve just put your finger on Cap d’Adge 🫵. But leave your dance moves in the locker room for now and pull out your best pair of running shoes 👟. Carbon sole or extra-cushy foam—so long as you don’t show up in flip-flops 🩴, you should be fine. A heads-up to all the record breakers: this isn’t the Marais Poitevin—you’ll need to work your entire posterior chain and swallow dozens of meters of elevation gain 🪨. The seaside isn’t perfectly smooth, but that’s also what makes the coast so charming 😍. Whatever distance you choose, the start will be at the Palais des Congrès and will first run along the Mediterranean. Then the routes will split, heading successively inland, into the historic center, and through the Cap d’Agde golf course. For younger runners, 4 kids’ courses are also set up, ranging from 400 m to 2 km 😎.
So, are your legs still itching? 😝 If you haven’t had your fill or you’ve still got energy to spare, you’ll be able to have fun around here. Your best dance moves will find a floor to land on between the Hush Club, the Bora Club, or Amnesia 🕺. If you’re lucky, you might even run into international stars there, not to mention Mosimann, DJ Snake, Timmy Trumpet, or Feder 🎤. But if you’d rather enjoy the seasonal weather, go roam (or simply walk—after a marathon, no one will blame you for taking your time 😅) among the volcanic cliffs or local nature reserves 🌱. The Bagnas Nature Reserve can even be done by bike, if you want to enjoy it without exhausting yourself 🥵. In the center, you can also build your historical knowledge by going in search of the remains of the ramparts of the City of Agde. Keep your eyes peeled—you’ll find traces here and there 😎.
This summer, set a course for Hérault, whatever your ag(d)e, there will be a race to your taste! 🍦
