The event in a few words

Looking for a race that does your legs and your head some good? We’ve got just what you need to get you out and about in October 🍂

The EcoMarathon Futakotama takes you to Tamagawa, in Setagaya-ku, in the heart of the Tokyo Metropolis, with a playground between city, public park, and calm waters 🍃. For the occasion, you’ll be able to take on 3 events open to beginners as well as seasoned runners who are there for a time trial ⏱️. The course is flateasy and fast 🏃‍♀️. You can choose between a half marathon, a 10 km and a parent-child race 🧑‍🧑‍🧒‍🧒, open to children under 15. No matter which event you choose, you’ll start at 11:00 sharp 🕚. With races limited to 300 participants in total, you’re unlikely to get trampled when the старт is given 😌.

With several other sporting events organized, particularly in the prefectures of SaitamaOsakaHiroshimaKyoto and Kumamoto (but mainly in Tokyo 🌸), the EcoMarathon positions itself as an organization mindful of the environment 🌳 and committed to different causes 🎗️. When registering, it’s possible to replace your payment with a donation to the associated charity organization. This year, donations will go to "Second Harvest Japan" and "the International Refugee Support Association" which create programs to welcome refugees from all over the world 🌍.

Tokyo is often seen as the beating, futuristic heart of Japan 🗼. This sprawling megacity is now famous for its illuminated skyscrapers, its lively neighborhoods like Shibuya and Shinjuku, its temples hidden amid the concrete, and its narrow alleyways packed with small shops. If you’re passing through, you might be lucky enough to see the famous Shibuya Crossing, one of the busiest pedestrian crossings in the world 🚦.

After the finish, keep your sneakers on—the stroll continues: go catch your breath around Futakotamagawa and its riverbanks, take a detour to Futako Tamagawa Rise for a bite to eat or to chill, head to Todoroki Valley for a shot of nature, or cross over to Shimokitazawa for the café vibe and little boutiques. And if you’re coming as a pair or with family, treat yourself to an end of day “walk + sunset” by the river: the perfect way to finish the race on a… foregone conclusion! ✨

4 reasons to join this race

Run responsibly ♻️
The city of Tamagawa is deeply committed to protecting the environment and preserving nearby beaches, rivers, and mountains. In organizing the eco-marathon, the event has opted for bibs made from recyclable materials as well as recyclable cups ♻. The organizer encourages runners to bring their own containers for refreshments 🥤.
A flat and fast course 💨
Whether you choose to run 5K, 10K, or a half marathon, you might be surprised by how easy the routes are—giving you a chance to maybe beat your personal record 🏅. If you’re hoping to spend a Sunday with family, a parent-child race is organized for children under 15 🧑‍🧑‍🧒‍🧒.
Take part in a human-scale event 🙋‍♂️
The maximum field is 300 people. If you’re used to international races with several thousand participants, you’ll see it’s not the same buzz. But don’t worry—we guarantee you’ll have just as much fun (maybe even more) running! 🏃
Taste Japanese specialties 🍱
The riverside district of Futako-Tamagawa offers foodie strolls all year round—between impromptu picnics, trendy cafés, and small restaurants by the water 🍲. Forget everything you know about concrete Tokyo: we promise you’ll feel transported by this peaceful, green atmosphere along the banks of the Tama River, and you’ll want to go back once you’re back in France! 🇫🇷
