Today we’re taking you to smash your PRs under the sun of the Iberian Peninsula ☀️. Pack your best running shorts in your suitcase and head to the Valencian Community in Spain for the perfect combo of running and pleasure 🏖️. It’s in early November that the legendary Gandia Half Marathon will take place (or Mitja Marató & 10K Gandía for the locals 📍). Nestled in the province of Valencia, the pretty coastal town of Gandia is waiting for you for a high-intensity outing, with the guarantee of running in an electrifying atmosphere where Iberian supporters cheer like nowhere else 📣. Nearly 18 entertainment spots are planned—the music is going to be loud! You’re about to run along the seaside 🌊, with varied landscapes blending nature, palm trees and typical cobblestones. Not bad, right? 🤓 On top of that, Spain is well known for its extraordinary festive atmosphere. So if you’re worried about not being cheered on, stop stressing right now—you can count on them to motivate you! 🎉
Running is cool, but how far? 🤔 The recipe is simple but terribly effective. You can choose between two dynamic formats: the flagship half marathon with its solid 21.097 km, or the ultra-fast 10K for those who prefer to let their speed do the talking over a shorter distance ⚡️. For this edition, the organizers are thinking big, offering a total of 2,500 bibs on the start line 🏁. It may sound like a lot, but trust us—you don’t want to wait around to secure yours 🎟️. On both courses, forget big elevation gains or steep trails right away. This is pure road running, urban, with a flat profile designed to shave off precious seconds ⏱️. It’s the perfect moment to target a personal best, or a "PB" as the peloton purists say 🏃♂️. For the historical anecdote that will help you shine at your next meal, know that Gandia is not just a seaside resort. It’s the historic stronghold of the famous Borgia family! 👑 The Ducal Palace, located right in the city center, has seen generations of dukes who, in their time, were running a very different race—for power, not a medal.
Once you’ve crossed the line and your medal is securely hanging around your neck, no way you’re heading straight for the shower 🚿. You’re in Spain—time to enjoy yourself in ways other than sweating! The region is packed with treasures, and you’ll have earned an active recovery session 🔥. Head straight to the huge fine sandy beach to relax your calves in the waters of the Mediterranean Sea 🌊. Then, grab a seat on a terrace in the historic center to taste the city’s absolute culinary specialty: Gandia’s Fideuà. Unlike its big sister, paella, it’s cooked a bit differently—but we’ll let you discover that for yourself 😉. A massive carb boost, perfect to validate your post-race carb loading . Finally, you can stroll through the little streets to admire the Borgia Ducal Palace and debrief your morning feats while savoring the mildness of the Spanish autumn 🇪🇸.

A word from the organizer:
"The Gandia Half Marathon has existed since 1991. Year after year, the organization has improved to better meet runners’ needs. The course offers all the appeal of a seaside race. It does not go over sand and is completely flat, in a single loop. It crosses Gandia’s historic center, passing in front of the Borja Palace, the city walls and the collegiate church of Gandia. It also goes through the town of Benirredrá, with the Convent of the Esclavas and its two characteristic towers. It also offers the charm of the landscape surrounding the city of Gandia, with its orange groves and Montuver in the background. The race is organized by the El Garbí running club, which has a section of amateur runners who take part as volunteers in the event. Around 800 volunteers help marshal the course and ensure the event runs smoothly. Gandia is 64 kilometers from Valencia. It is served by bus and train lines from Valencia and, as a tourist city, it offers accommodation and dining options in the immediate vicinity of the start."
Ready for a great half marathon? Come on—no room for a Sunday lie-in; it’s starting time! 🔥
You begin by setting off perfectly, along the seafront, heading north along the coastline 🌊. From km 1 to 3, you’ll be tempted to do something other than run... Take a dip, of course, because you’ll be alongside Playa de Gandia, with fine sand and clear waters in sight. When you reach Urbanización Les Motes at km 3, it’s time to turn around and head south ⬇️. A short stop comes at km 5 for the first aid station, and at km 6 you’ll pass by the finish line. But you’ll be far from done! ✅
The rest of the course continues toward the south of Gandia and heads into the protected wetlands of the Marjal de Gandia. An exceptional natural area awaits you, with its marshes and wildlife 🌟.
From km 10, there’s another refreshment stop, then the route takes on a historical and cultural 📚 dimension. As you weave through the narrow streets of Gandia’s city center, you’ll feel the history lived by the famous Borja (the Borgia) family. At km 15, the second-to-last aid station will recharge you so you can finish these final kilometers strong.
At the 17th kilometer, it’s time to head back north of the city to reach the starting point again, with one last aid station at km 18. As the sea gets closer, the finish line follows—and bingo, 21.097 km completed! ⚡️
10 km, no more no less, the program is clear—we hope you're ready! 🤓
You start off in paradise, heading north along the Playa de Gandia 🌊. Careful, swimming will have to wait until after the race—hold back a little longer before you dive in 🤿. The route then climbs up to the area of Urbanización Les Motes with a small loop to turn around around km 3. A turnaround means a change of direction, so this time, set your sights on the south of the city!
At km 5, you're already halfway there—and above all, it's the refreshment station 🍏. It's time to refuel and take on the other half of the course! Back on the coastline, the sea will soothe your eyes, and you'll head further down to complete a loop through the Grao district (at the Port of Gandia), before returning to the finish line 🏅.
