Let's go to the beach

Can’t decide between intense effort and Mediterranean sunbathing? 🕶️ Spain is opening its arms wide for you to cover 21.0975 km of pure greatness while you soak up the sun! Between two tapas and a glass of sangria (after the race, obviously), come tread the lands of Cervantes 🇪🇸.

Taking the start of a half marathon in Spain is a sure bet for the perfect combo: radiant sunshine, courses made for speed, and an atmosphere that will give you chills. It’s no coincidence that many world records regularly fall on the Iberian Peninsula ⏱️. Whatever the month of the year: forget the gloom, put on your sunglasses, and get your calves ready. Olé! 🐂

Let’s not kid ourselves, running at sea level is ideal for fresh air and post-race swims 😎. Wedged between the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea, Spain is not short on seaside events. The Mediterranean coast hosts some of the continent’s most iconic events. To start, we have to mention the hugely popular Barcelona Half Marathon (or Mitja Marató de Barcelone in Spanish 🇪🇸). This race has you running alongside turquoise water with a little breeze on your face to cool the engine 💨. The loop is ultra-fast and links the Arc de Triomf to the Spanish coastline 🔛. Every year the event draws more than 35,000 participants, so take the opportunity to find a group at your pace and smash your PR 🤯. Speaking of records, the Valencia Half Marathon has nothing to envy the Catalan capital. Many world records have been broken there between 2017 and today, such as the current women’s half marathon record, set by Letesenbet Gidey in 1 hour, 2 minutes and 52 seconds. In short, the course is so flat and fast that if you don’t crush your old result there, there’s nothing we can do for you anymore! 🤷‍♂️ Heading further south, you’ll also find the Malaga Half Marathon. Held on the Costa del Sol, it’s one of the country’s fastest races. Perfect for melting the clock under the palm trees 🌴. Clearly, speed lovers are going to have a field day 💗.

On the other hand, if you prefer the charm of old stones to the smell of sunscreen, head inland. Spain isn’t just beaches, fine sand, and 25°C water—it’s also a crazy-rich heritage that will make you feel like you’re traveling through History (with a capital H) 🕰️. Our first recommendation is the Seville Half Marathon, in Andalusia. Baila Baila oh ! The race record is under an hour—one hell of a guarantee of speed. They call it the flying carpet of running because the course is so flat 🫓. You’ll pass, among other things, the Giralda and the Plaza de España at a mind-blowing pace 🧞‍♂️. If you’re looking for an even more urban course, the Madrid Half Marathon is made for you! It’s not an urban trail, but it’s pretty close. With 292 mD+ over the whole course, you’ll get to test your cardio 🫀. That’ll give you a top-tier excuse to wolf down a double serving of churros con chocolate at the finish. 🍫 To wrap up our little Spanish road trip, set your sights on the Granada Half Marathon in April to enjoy the gentle spring sunshine. In the background: the majestic Sierra Nevada mountain range and a breathtaking view of the Alhambra. You’re going to get an eyeful—and a legful 🦵.

In the end, running in Spain isn’t just about mindlessly stacking up kilometers while staring at your GPS watch ⌚️. It’s living a true stride fiesta, in a muy caliente atmosphere! 🪇 The locals have plenty of voice to spare and won’t hesitate to shout your name to give you a little boost when you hit the 15th kilometer wall. The crowd is legendary 📣—and so are the races and the scenery. The volunteers’ energy at the aid stations is so contagious you might almost want to stop and have a chat ⚡️. But the real reward for every Spanish finisher? Crossing the finish line with the Iberian runner’s holy trinity: the medal around your neck, a nice cold cerveza for recovery, and a heaping plate of paella to recharge the batteries 🥘.

So, ready to lace up your best sneakers for a trip to Spain? Choose your half marathon from the races on offer, book your ticket, and get your best smile ready for the finish-line photo.Vamos a correr ! 🏃‍♀️
