In May, do as you please, but don't forget to pedal ๐ด.
When the beautiful season pokes its nose ๐, hop on your trusty steed, and go down the mythical Bordeaux hills. The paths and trails through the famous Gironde vineyards will welcome you with open arms and show you all the colors (especially red and white ๐ท). But well, even if the viticulture specialties are one of the region's prides, you aren't here for that ๐คช. As a high medium-level athlete, you know that alcohol abuse is dangerous for your health and should be consumed in moderation ๐ซก. Your motivation is rather sport, pleasure, and performance, right? ๐ If so, the natural Bordeaux environment will surely win your heart ๐.
In this Bordeaux edition of the GravelMan circuit, you head to Bordeaux, the Gironde capital, the great cousin of Toulouse ๐ธ. You know, where they have this odd habit of calling everything "chocolatine". Anyway, along your route, you will encounter the Garonne, the Dordogne, and many iconic cities of New Aquitaine ๐๏ธ. As usual, the organizers have prepared 5 events of mileage and elevation for all levels, to be done in gravel or road bike mode: 60 km and 800 mD+, 120 km and 1,800 mD+, 200 km and 2,500 mD+, 350 km and 4,000 mD+ and the weekend star, the 600 km and 6,000 mD+ version. If you choose one of the two largest courses of the edition, we hope you have more than a day ahead of you โ๏ธ, because this is not the kind of challenge that can be completed in a few hours. Here, time is counted in days ๐ . Anyway, no matter your choice, boredom is not an optionโyou'll need to stay awake if you want to finish on time ๐. Also, the events are self-supported: without assistance, you might become more familiar with your bike than your best mate by the end of the weekend ๐ฌ. On the landscape side, the departments of Lot-et-Garonne, Gironde, and Dordogne are renowned for their hilly vineyards ๐ and lush fields. Given that the routes are only revealed 10 days before the race ๐, no guarantees can be made, but perhaps the organizers will take a playful approach, and the routes will pass by the seaside? After all, only 70 km separate Bordeaux from Arcachon (and its famous oyster basin...).
When the pedal strokes become nothing but a distant memory, enjoy your trip to New Aquitaine to discover tons of urban wonders ๐คฉ. To the East, retrace your steps (or wheels ๐) and take a tour in Bergerac. This town, recognized as a city of art and history is the second most populated in Dordogne, behind Pรฉrigueux. The city may ring a bell, notably because of a certain Cyrano ๐ก๏ธ... For sea and beach lovers, about-face and head to the Atlantic coast. Here, you are spoiled for choice among seaside resorts: Lacanau, Andernos, Biscarrosse or Mimizan, pick the name that speaks to you the most and book a mobile home for a few days โฑ๏ธ. Don't forget to check out the largest sand dune in Europe: the famous Dune du Pilat. Although it's just a huge sand pile, our beloved Gironde folks promote it so much that it's worth a visit. Lastly, if you simply want to stroll in a forest, you can get lost in the Landes, linking Le Barp to Mont-de-Marsan. That leaves you with quite a playground ๐คช. And there are plenty of bike paths if you're too attached to your training partner (yes, your bike ๐ฒ).
Ready, set, pedal! The GravelMan Bordeaux and the chocolatines are waiting for you ๐ฅ.
A few days before the start, you will receive the map as well as a manifesto containing the various information for your adventure (mandatory equipment, routes, start/finish locations...).
