Pitchoun, minot, costaud: in Pélissanne, Provençal vocabulary doubles as a race plan even before the first stopwatch click ⏱️. The village nestles at the foot of the Massif des Costes between Salon-de-Provence and Aix-en-Provence, in the Bouches-du-Rhône in Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur📍. See you in early October, right in the middle of the Provençal Indian summer. At that time of year, the mistral sometimes shows up like the slightly intrusive uncle at a family meal, but the sky is generally clear ☀️ and bodies cruise along in the low 20s °C during the day. A welcome coolness settles in especially at nightfall—just in time to greet the last trail runners of the evening 🌙.
On the road, the "5 km des Foulées" and the "10 km des Foulées" speed along a fairly fast route through the village streets 🏘️, before dipping into the surrounding garrigue 🌿. Both formats are also open from the Cadet category (15-16 years old): a chance to clock a first road time on both the short and long distance 🎽. The "Trail du Caronte" already turns up the heat with its 500 mD+ over 15 km: a technical, trail and wild route that climbs along a balcony above the rooftops of Pélissanne, grinding on its rocky sections 🪨. But the real decider remains the "Trail du Calabrun" and its 30 km built with 75% singletrack 🏔️. A mandatory pit stop at the Aurons aid station at the 16th km: the cut-off time falls at 2h45, instantly turning half the pack into mental time calculators ⏱️. Once night falls, headlamps switch on one by one 🔦 and draw a long trail of light across the trails, before taking on the "Diagonale des Costauds": at the 22nd km, a stony climb of 800 m and 80 mD+ that hits bodies already well worn, proof that in Pélissanne, even the elevation has a sense of humor 😅, just before the final drop back toward Pélissanne 🏁.
Rooted for more than 40 editions in the local landscape, the "Foulées Pélissannaises" are also part of the “Terre de Mistral” Challenge 🏆, which brings together each year the region’s best runners and trail runners across several events in the Bouches-du-Rhône. Yet the club forgets no one: between the "Ronde des Pitchouns" for 3-10 year-olds and the brand-new "Ronde des Minots" for 11-14 year-olds 👦, the next generation laces up too 👟. One thing is certain: here, you run as a family 👨👩👧👦, you walk with neighbors on the "Marche de la vigne à l'olivier" 🚶, and you meet up at the Partners Village well before the first whistle.
The walk’s name doesn’t lie: the vine 🍇 and the olive tree 🫒 shape the Pélissanne landscape as much as the local pantry. Once you cross the line, head to the Finishers refreshment for a well-earned local beer or lemonade 🍻 before heading to the local market for a tapenade or a drizzle of regional olive oil—the only Southern "recovery" that truly earns itself by taste 😂. Those still hungry for more can push on to Salon-de-Provence and its Château de l'Empéri 🏰 or climb into the Alpilles Regional Natural Park to extend the outing on two legs 🦵.
Pitchoun, minot or costaud: in Pélissanne, we all end up with the accent—and the calves that go with it 🗣️.
A word from the organizer:
"Passionate about trail running and nature, we were eager to showcase our beautiful Massif des Costes, which reveals all Provençal beauty through its flora, its light, its rocks! We are a club where joie de vivre and sharing reign. So we wanted a very family-friendly, festive day: plenty of entertainment is planned (batucada, an evening concert, workshops for children, etc.). But we are also citizens who care about everyone, and solidarity seemed essential to us. This year again, €1 per bib will go to an association, « Péli'Fée Coutures », which makes therapeutic cushions for women with breast cancer. Our partner companies are also being asked to fund a project by the association « Un jeu pour tous », for the center « La Chamade », which supports young people with disabilities."
Start at 6:00 p.m. in semi-night conditions, limited to 300 participants. The most demanding format of the day: 1,000 m D+ on a wild route made up of 75% technical, playful singletrack 🏔️. The course climbs along ridgelines offering wide viewpoints before crossing the hilltop village of Aurons, nestled between sky and garrigue 🌄. Three aid stations line the route: liquids at km 10.5, solids and liquids at km 16, then liquids at km 21, with a time cutoff set at 2h45 at the km 16 station. At the 22nd km, the "Diagonale des Costauds" forces a rocky climb of 800 m and 80 m D+, just before the final drop toward Pélissanne and the finish at the Malacrida Hall 🔦
Start at 3pm, limited to 300 participants, open from the Junior category (18 years old, born in 2008 or earlier). An introductory trail format with 500 mD+ on a technical, wild course that climbs along a balcony path above the rooftops of Pélissanne, leg-breaking on its rocky sections 🪨 before descending back to the village. A single solid and liquid refreshment station, at km 7.5, before the RD68 bridge near the Les Pinèdes subdivision, complements the one at the finish. No time limit is applied: plenty of time to discover the terrain without the pressure of the clock.
Start at 3:20 p.m., limited to 500 participants, open from the Cadets category (15/16 years old, born in 2010/2011). The club’s historic race, and the most popular, follows a smooth nature course through the town with around 100 mD+ spread across the entire route: never enough to break your legs, but enough to test your consistency. Liquid refreshment at the 5th km, then solid and liquid at the finish. New for 2026: a DUO option lets you run as a pair, under the same bib, all the way to the finish line 👯.
Start at 3:30 p.m., non-timed, limited to 150 participants. The route follows 80% of the course of the "10 km des Foulées", using the same markings up to km 4.9 before joining its own itinerary through vineyards and olive trees 🍇. A gradual walk, with no technical difficulty, designed to take the time to observe the countryside around Pélissanne 🌾. A liquid refreshment at the 5th km complements the one at the finish.
Start at 3:25 pm, limited to 200 participants, open from the Cadets category (15/16 years old, born in 2010/2011). The course follows 50% of the route of the "10 km des Foulées" 🔁, fast in its first part through the village streets before heading into the surrounding garrigue for a more nature 🌿 section. About fifty metres of elevation gain, 50 mD+, is enough to break the rhythm a bit without ever becoming technical. The refreshment station, meanwhile, is only waiting at the finish, so you can keep going without stopping.
This race is reserved for 11-14 year-olds, with a start given on Avenue Saint Roch at 2:00 p.m. in Pélissanne. The format is short and fast (3 km), designed as a real first timed race rather than a simple game 🏃. The nature course avoids any technical or rugged profile, for a gentle introduction to competition on terrain accessible to all middle-schoolers taking it on for the first time.
Bib pickup takes place only on race day, starting at 1:00 p.m., in the start area, Avenue Saint Roch in Pélissanne.
A QR code is sent by email a few days before the race for pickup.
The bib is issued individually upon presentation of an ID, the QR code or proof of payment with the bib number (issued by SportN'connect, in paper or smartphone format), and the FFA license or PPS if these were not provided at registration.
