For its 8th edition, the Baloise Namur Marathon (its real name) is back fitter than ever to take you running along the Meuse 🏃. We’ll meet you in April, in Belgium 🍟, for a must-run road race to discover the capital of Wallonia! 🇧🇪 An exceptional setting awaits you along your route beside the Meuse ! 🐟 Whether you start the 10 km, the 21 km or the 42.195 km, you’ll take on a demanding hilly course that will lead you from Wépion to Namur, via Profondeville 🧭. A "Materne Kids Run" will also be organized! 🧒
Throughout the meanders of the Meuse and the Sambre, Wallonia will reveal its historic and contemporary monuments of note 🤩. During your stay, we strongly recommend you go take a look at the citadel! 👀 The walks it offers could really help you relax before or after the race! 🍃 Not far from there, an extraordinary statue overlooks the city 🙄. Called Searching for Utopia, this golden turtle was created by Jan Fabre! 🐢
Old Namur is also a neighborhood you shouldn’t overlook. The streets are entirely pedestrian and will take you to Saint-Aubain Cathedral! ⛪ Built in the 18th century, it features Gothic, Rococo and Classical architecture. A true visual treat! 😍 Yes, we see you coming: Belgium also means beer 🍻, we agree. But even if it’s very good, you need to consume it in moderation! Remember you’re going there to run! 💨 Special info for lovers 💞: you can take your sweetheart on a barge, moored along the Meuse quays, for one of the most romantic nights! ⛴️ Yes, after the effort comes comfort! And why not a little reward like that? 😘
This race will also be an opportunity to do two good deeds on the same day! The Namur Marathon is committed to an eco-friendly and sustainable development approach throughout the event ♻ by limiting the use of plastic bottles, ensuring all waste is collected 🚮, and respecting the route and its natural areas 🌳. But that’s not all: by getting your bib, you support the KickCancer association 🎗 which raises funds to fight childhood cancer 🧒. For each 10 km registration, €2 is automatically donated, and whatever your distance, you can also make an additional donation at payment 🤝.
Your Namur adventure can begin as early as Saturday of the first weekend of April, with the opening of the expo village (at Namur Expo). You can pick up your bib there 🎽, and also enjoy the many activities organized 🪅. On Sunday, the alarm will ring very early (6 a.m. for the bravest 😉)! ⏰. The organizers have planned everything so this competition is accessible to everyone, including families 👩👩👦 who want to come run but couldn’t find anyone to look after their little one... 👶 Free daycare will be available from 7 a.m. 🧸. In this area, children aged 3 to 12 will be supervised by the Champion Youth and Culture Center. The number of spots is limited so be sure to select this option when you register! 📝
So, will we see you at the Namur Marathon? ⚡
Starting from the Wépion lock, you’ll set off on a 42.195 km journey along the Meuse! 🌊 You’ll do two out-and-backs along the riverbanks, then finish with the 10 km course! Before long, you’ll know the current’s direction by heart 😝. But watch out: you still have 239 mD+ to expect! 😅 Between Wépion, Profondeville and Namur, you’ll alternate between roads closed to traffic and the riverside cycle paths, roughly in equal parts 🚲. At the end of the race, the Sambre will take over from the Meuse to guide you to the finish line at Namur Expo🛤️.
Starting from Profondeville, you'll follow the Meuse all along your route! 🌊 You'll even be going with the current all the way to Namur: with 102 mD+ and 119 mD-, the profile even tilts slightly in your favor 📉. More than half of this certified, very fast course runs on the riverside bike paths, the rest on the road 🛣️. From km 13 onward, you'll take the same route as the 10 km 🏁. You'll wrap up your adventure along the Sambre, at the Namur Expo finish line.
Starting from the Parc de la Plante, you will head towards the Square de la Francophonie 🌳. You will then run alongside the Meuse for 3 km. You will cross via the Pont des Grands Malades to reach the Promenade de la Douceur Moscane, which you will cover for 5 km 🏃➡️. Then you will need to return to the other bank to go and cross the finish line at Namur Expo! 🏁 With only 29 mD+, the 10 km has the flattest profile of the three distances 🥞, ideal for discovering road running along the water.
