Did you know? Olomouc has six Baroque fountains, each representing a god from mythology 🏛️.
Word in our earpiece is that the god of running (we’ll call him Kilometrus 🤷♀️) is going to make history in this Czech city 🇨🇿. That god is you on the start line of the Mattoni Olomouc Running Festival 💪. So if you thought the Czech Republic stopped at the spires of Prague, get ready for a visual and historical slap in Olomouc 😍. Ready? Come with us!
The Mattoni Olomouc Running Festival lands right in the heart of Moravia to turn the region’s former capital into a huge running rendezvous 💨. We’re talking about a major event featuring a half marathon to run solo, as a pair or as a team of four, as well as a 5K for those who don’t want to tackle the half distance just yet 👑. The event is also accessible, since a family kilometer and kids’ races are on the program 👶. As for the course, you’re in for a treat 😍. The heart of the event beats at Horní náměstí, the main square, surrounded by historic buildings, dominated by the spectacular Holy Trinity Column (a UNESCO site, no less 😌) and the town hall with its famous astronomical clock 🕰️. But careful: it’s not a classic clock ❌ this one is packed with details you can admire up close 👀. But before you play tourist, you have to run! The half marathon starts at 7:00 pm, which means you’ll run in cooler conditions, with exceptional light 🌇. The organizers thought of your well-being with this start time, so you can enjoy the milder temperatures of June 🥵. If you want to share the effort, you can choose the relay half (3 x 5 km + 1 x 6.09 km) or the duo (10 km + 11 km ✂️). Feeling like you’ve got wings? Know that the standard is high: 1:00:15 for men (Stephen Kiprop) and 1:06:38 for women (Mary Keitany). At the same time, the course is as flat as a crêpe with 47 mD+: perfect for smashing your PR 🚀. Whatever your goal, you’ll set off alongside thousands of runners at sunset—and that’s pure bliss 🤩.
Once you’ve put your bib away, Olomouc has a great plan in store for you! 🥳 Head to Upper Square to spot the golden cannonball embedded in the Holy Trinity Column 🏛️. For recovery, go all in on the famous tvarůžky, a local cheese with 1% fat but a smell… more than tough 🥴. If you’ve got a strong stomach, try the sweet-and-savory pastry version 🍰. For active recovery, stroll through the city’s botanical garden or loop around the 6 historic fountains ⛲️. End your day on a terrace with a well-deserved Czech beer to toast your new medal 🍺.
Beating your record in a historic city? Czech! ✅
This is the highlight of the show: this half marathon kicks off with a bang on the legendary Horní náměstí Square 🏛️. You’ll take off in a postcard-perfect setting, winding between the Baroque gems of the city center before heading for the calming banks of the Morava River 🐠. The route then treats itself to a breather along the lush paths of Smetanovy Sady Park, the city’s green lung 🌳. Get ready to bring the heat, because the course offers gorgeous straightaways—the perfect secret ingredient to smash your PR ⚡.
This course is a true record-setting machine designed for high-intensity enthusiasts 🚀. Starting from the unmissable Horní náměstí square, you’ll treat yourself to a complete tour of the city in a masterful loop that brings you back to your starting point 🔄.
