Missed the Ătape du Tour? đ Donât panicâthe MĂ©ribel Cyclo-Tour Challenge is here to save the day! đȘ For the first time, the Tarentaise Valley, in Savoie, is opening its roads for the weekend of August 15! Experienced cyclists and climbers, get on your bikes! đŽââïž The event runs over 3 days for 2 totally different events and 1 day of activities âïž. Here, weâre not talking endurance but rather short, steep events, so youâll need to perfect your out-of-the-saddle dancing to pass your buddies at the top of the passes! đș
Speaking of passes â°ïž, youâll tackle two of the most legendary passes in the 3 Valleys. The Col de TougnĂšte and the Col de la Loze will be within pedaling distance! đ You can choose to do one event and head home, or stay for the whole weekend and take on the 2 stages of the MĂ©ribel Cyclo-Tour Challenge đ. But where do these races go? Well, along the same roads you bomb down on skis in winter! â·ïž For each stage, youâll link one town to another (or one resort to another đ€). On the first day, youâll ride from Brides-les-Bains up to the Altiport in MĂ©ribel, for a total of 17 km and 1,135 m of elevation gain on the clock! Already a lot of climbing in the legs đ„”. And the next day, youâll connect Les Allues to the summit of the Col de la Loze at 2,275 m altitude. In this event, youâll have covered 15 km and 1,235 m of elevation gain. If that seems like a lot, you can always reassure yourself by telling yourself that this stage (and only this one) is open to electric-assist bikes! đ For the total of the 2 stages, if weâre not too bad at math đ , that gives 32 km and 2,370 m of elevation gain. Not many kilometers for a whole lot of climbing! đŹ
Itâs nice to tell you about the tough climbs that await, but we also mentioned a day of activities! đ To get you in the mood and, above all, kick off the MĂ©ribel Cyclo Challenge, on Friday there will be an opening evening and entertainment. There, on the eve of the race, what will matter most is conviviality, sharing, and topping up your energy đ. Yep, partying is fun, but the next morning the alarm will ring â° and it wonât be to chill on a deckchair, but rather to pedal like crazy đŽââïž.
Who says climbing also says raclette! đ€€ Yepâthereâs no season in Savoie for enjoying cheese đ§. After that, you can go for a little walk: thereâs no shortage of hikes in the Vanoise Massif! If youâre motivated, you can hike up to the Mont-Coua Lakes, which are above the Saut hut đ. A chance to sleep in the cool air and as close as possible to nature! đïž And by the way, if you keep your eyes peeled and tread softly đŁ, you just might spot a marmot poking its nose out around a bend in the trail đ„Ÿ.
Alright thenâsaddle up, Marcel, MĂ©ribel is waiting just for you! đ
The challenge brings together the stages of both days! đ So it will be 17 km and 1135 mD+ for the first day, and on Sunday there will be a great time trial up the Col de la Loze over 15 km and 1235 mD+ đ.
Total: 32 km and 2,370 mD+, thatâs a great weekend all wrapped up â .
For this first stage, youâll be set off to draw a route going from one town to another! âïž Starting from Brides-les-Bains, youâll begin by leaving the village to go zigzagging through the nearby forest and reach Les Allues at km 7 đ«. Halfway is already almost done; from this point, youâll head straight south, passing through Chandon (km 8.5), Le Raffort (km 10) and Musillon (km 12) before finally arriving in MĂ©ribel at the 13th kilometer đ.
Careful: once in MĂ©ribel, the finish line is far from crossedâthere are still 4 km to go! đŽââïž Once again, with lots of zigzags, youâll climb back up through the town, leave it, and reach the MĂ©ribel Altiport. There, itâs finally time to celebrate and catch your breath: the race is OVER! đ Well doneâ17 km and 1,135 m D+ on the clock, thatâs impressive! đ€©
For this second and final stage, the route starts from Allues, and climbs all the way to the top of the Col de la Loze! âŹïž This race adds a bit of pep, because it will be run as a time trial. On your marks, get set, pedal! đŽââïž
On Saturday, they went through here (and maybe you did too); the start will be in Allues. Following in the previous dayâs tracks, the descent will be via Chandon (km 2), Raffort (km 3.5) and Musillon (km 5) before reaching MĂ©ribel at the 5th kilometer đ. Then itâs time to cross through it, to climb back up and head east of the town. Passing through the forest, youâll start to see the Col de la Loze gradually appear in front of you, especially from kilometer 12.
Now you get it: all thatâs left is to climb it and head straight for its summit to celebrate đ. Hats offâthe clock has stopped, the 15 km and 1,235 m of elevation gain too; time for a rest feast! đ€©
