Imagine... 🌙 Night falls over Cottance, a small village perched in the Mounts of Lyonnais ⛰️, and a strange mist covers the trails. In the heart of the Loire, in the silence, you might hear an old creaking of metal... Could it be the echo of the ghost monorail that, in the 19th century, was supposed to connect Feurs to Panissières but never completed its journey? 🚂 The rails have vanished, but the legend still runs 🤫. And that night, it's you who will awaken it during the Monorail Night Trail 🫵.
The Monorail Night Trail is an adventure like no other: two trail courses of 12 km and 20 km, plus a 7 km discovery non-timed for those who want to taste the nocturnal magic without time pressure 🧘. With a headlamp fixed on your head, you'll walk a path where workers once laid the foundations of a crazy railway project 😮. Due to lack of resources, the project was abruptly halted 😢. Known as the monorail trail, this track takes you through the history of this "strange machine" (as the locals call it 😉). And since it will be October 31, you might as well dive fully into the atmosphere 🎃. Here, running in costume is not just tolerated, it's strongly encouraged 🎭. Imagine the scene: a ghost train filled with zombies 🧟, witches 🧙, and vampires 🧛 racing full speed into the night... except the rails are trails, and the journey ends around a warm "special Halloween" soup 🍲. They even say some runners end up wondering if they're really meeting participants or passengers of the haunted monorail escaped from the past ⏰. And if you want to play it strategically, know that this race is perfect for preparing for the SaintéLyon: same nocturnal atmosphere, same winter ultra-trail sensations, and maybe even snow in the forecast! ❄️
After the race, don't leave the site just yet ❌. If you've survived the haunted forest of Cottance, extend the weekend! Stroll through Feurs and its charming little streets, visit the Weaving and Silk Museum, or admire the Valette Chapel. And most importantly... prepare your stomach 🤪. François Rabelais ✍️, native of the Loire, was inspired by this region to write Gargantua. It's no wonder the gargantuan dishes in this novel are so appetizing 😋. Creamy Fourme de Montbrison, tender potato gratin, praluline straight from Roanne, and even the famous barboton as warming as your post-race soup 🥶.
