Ready for a new adventure? The Pisa Marathon (or Maratona di Pisa) is coming up ๐. Of course, when we talk about Pisa, we mostly think of the famous leaning Tower and photos of tourists pretending to hold up the building with their hands ๐ธ. However, this city in Tuscany located on the northern Mediterranean coast of Italy ๐ฎ๐น has many more tricks up its sleeve! It is filled with buildings โ all perfectly straight! โ remarkable ones, such as Renaissance brick-pink buildings, typically Tuscan palazzi, churches, Occitan crosses inherited from the Crusades, and picturesque alleys ๐. For those who have a serious passion for running, Pisa is especially worth visiting for its unmissable event: its end-of-year marathon! The bonus is that there's more than just a 42 km. Let us tell you more ๐.
The Maratona di Pisa doesn't just offer the queen distance of road racing, the fearsome 42.195 km, but also a half marathon. And because it will be late December, it's the perfect time to celebrate Christmas in advance! ๐ A Family Run themed around Christmas, the "Christmas Family Run" ๐ , stretching 4 miles (or 6.44 km) will be offered for families ๐จโ๐ฉโ๐งโ๐ฆ. This last race is perfect for shattering your personal record! A classic program that should help convince the most hesitant family members or friends to join in! ๐ All the events start and finish at the Piazza dei Miracoli, which includes the Duomo (the famous cathedral, a symbol of Pisan Romanesque art with its exuberant facade), the Battistero with its immense dome, the Camposanto (monumental cemetery), and the Leaning Tower of Pisa ๐ฅฐ. Whatever your choice, the city's urban and historical scene will be your playground ๐.
If you wish to explore around the Tower, you can take a Tour through the city that showcases its charms (we love word plays at Finishers ๐คช): the via Santa Maria with its elegant buildings, the Piazza dei Cavalieri, the Arno, the Galleria Nazionale, the numerous palaces, and the more popular neighborhoods, where you can enjoy Tuscan gastronomy ๐. Pici, fish soups, olive oil bruschetta, Chianti, gelato, Vino Nobile from Montepulciano, Brunello from Montalcinoโฆ Tuscany is truly a culinary wonder! ๐คค No doubt, recovery will be both gourmet and cultural!
So, ready to pick up speed in Tuscany? The Pisa Marathon awaits you! Lace-up your sneakers, and see you soon! ๐
Running 42.195 km in one of the most iconic cities in Italy ๐ฎ๐น, that's impressive! ๐ The start is given at the piazza dei Miracoli, just a stone's throw from the Leaning Tower in an electrifying atmosphere โก๏ธ. You will follow the Arno before crossing it (by taking a bridge, of course!) and reaching the Della Spina church at the 5th km. Then you will race towards Vettola, then the San Piero basilica. You will then leave the city to cross the San Rossore natural park and soon reach the Tyrrhenian Sea ๐. Enjoy the delightful atmosphere of the Pisa marina which you will leave at the 29th km. Then, it's a long but pleasant journey back along the Arno to reach the finish line, at the foot of the Campanile ๐.
A half marathon as picturesque as it is fast! After starting at the piazza dei Miracoli, just steps from the leaning tower, you will run along the Arno before crossing it to reach Della Spina Church at the 5th km ๐. You will then pass in front of Vettola, then the San Piero Basilica. After a few strides in the San Rossore Natural Park, you will make a 180ยฐ turn: the route will then be straight along the Arno to reach the piazza dei Miracoli where you will cross the finish line ๐.
A family run that is especially friendly for 4 miles (or 6.44 km), entirely plotted in the city center ! ๐ A magical immersion in the rich heritage of the city with start and finish at the piazza dei Miracoli and a stroll along the Arno ๐. Oh, we almost forgot: costume for Christmas is mandatory!
