The event in a few words

Ready for a new adventure? The Pisa Marathon (or Maratona di Pisa) is coming up ๐Ÿ‘€. Of course, when we talk about Pisa, we mostly think of the famous leaning Tower and photos of tourists pretending to hold up the building with their hands ๐Ÿ“ธ. However, this city in Tuscany located on the northern Mediterranean coast of Italy ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡น has many more tricks up its sleeve! It is filled with buildings โ€“ all perfectly straight! โ€“ remarkable ones, such as Renaissance brick-pink buildings, typically Tuscan palazzi, churches, Occitan crosses inherited from the Crusades, and picturesque alleys ๐Ÿ˜. For those who have a serious passion for running, Pisa is especially worth visiting for its unmissable event: its end-of-year marathon! The bonus is that there's more than just a 42 km. Let us tell you more ๐Ÿ‘‡.

The Maratona di Pisa doesn't just offer the queen distance of road racing, the fearsome 42.195 km, but also a half marathon. And because it will be late December, it's the perfect time to celebrate Christmas in advance! ๐Ÿ˜Ž A Family Run themed around Christmas, the "Christmas Family Run" ๐ŸŽ…, stretching 4 miles (or 6.44 km) will be offered for families ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘งโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆ. This last race is perfect for shattering your personal record! A classic program that should help convince the most hesitant family members or friends to join in! ๐Ÿ˜‰ All the events start and finish at the Piazza dei Miracoli, which includes the Duomo (the famous cathedral, a symbol of Pisan Romanesque art with its exuberant facade), the Battistero with its immense dome, the Camposanto (monumental cemetery), and the Leaning Tower of Pisa ๐Ÿฅฐ. Whatever your choice, the city's urban and historical scene will be your playground ๐Ÿ›.

If you wish to explore around the Tower, you can take a Tour through the city that showcases its charms (we love word plays at Finishers ๐Ÿคช): the via Santa Maria with its elegant buildings, the Piazza dei Cavalieri, the Arno, the Galleria Nazionale, the numerous palaces, and the more popular neighborhoods, where you can enjoy Tuscan gastronomy ๐Ÿ˜‹. Pici, fish soups, olive oil bruschetta, Chianti, gelato, Vino Nobile from Montepulciano, Brunello from Montalcinoโ€ฆ Tuscany is truly a culinary wonder! ๐Ÿคค No doubt, recovery will be both gourmet and cultural!

So, ready to pick up speed in Tuscany? The Pisa Marathon awaits you! Lace-up your sneakers, and see you soon! ๐Ÿ‘Ÿ

4 reasons to join this race

For the Christmas spirit ๐ŸŽ„
At the Pisa Marathon, we don't just talk about solidarity, we take concrete action! The event supports several charitable causes: 6 homeless individuals from the "Homeless Project" are involved in the organization, while the Rare Partners association (which supports research against Usher syndrome), the Di Ciolo Fencing para-sport club, the Afaka School Village project in Madagascar, and the La Tartaruga association (related to Parkinson's disease) are supported by the event ๐Ÿ‘.
To challenge the stopwatch โฑ๏ธ
There's nothing like a personal challenge at the end of the year to close the season in style! The Pisa marathon and half marathon offer you a golden opportunity to beat your record on one of these classic distances. Perfect for tackling another marathon โ€“ the end-of-year festivities โ€“ in top shape! ๐Ÿ‹๏ธ
To discover the region ๐Ÿฅฐ
While the Tower is the local star, the Pisa region is worth an adventure: immerse yourself in the silent world of the Pisa Charterhouse, one of Italy's largest monastic complexes, or venture into the Monti Pisani, a mountain massif rich in valleys, forests, and olive groves, as well as charming small villages. If you're more of a sea person than a mountain lover, treat yourself to a trip along the nearby coast to get a breath of sea air just before Christmas! โ›ต๏ธ
An incredible atmosphere ๐Ÿฅณ
The Pisa Marathon is also about the Italian atmosphere, the party for 42 km! You'll forget the biting cold thanks to the cheering supporters who will have you clapping your hands to stay warm and will ignite the course at every corner! ๐Ÿ”ฅ

A few more words

Running 42.195 km in one of the most iconic cities in Italy ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡น, that's impressive! ๐Ÿš€ The start is given at the piazza dei Miracoli, just a stone's throw from the Leaning Tower in an electrifying atmosphere โšก๏ธ. You will follow the Arno before crossing it (by taking a bridge, of course!) and reaching the Della Spina church at the 5th km. Then you will race towards Vettola, then the San Piero basilica. You will then leave the city to cross the San Rossore natural park and soon reach the Tyrrhenian Sea ๐ŸŒŠ. Enjoy the delightful atmosphere of the Pisa marina which you will leave at the 29th km. Then, it's a long but pleasant journey back along the Arno to reach the finish line, at the foot of the Campanile ๐Ÿ.
