The event in a few words

Are you ready for a new adventure? The Pisa Marathon (or Maratona di Pisa) is on the horizon 👀. Of course, when we talk about Pisa, we think mainly of the famous Leaning Tower and the photos of tourists pretending to hold up the building with their hand 📸. However, this city of Tuscany on the Mediterranean coast of Northern Italy 🇮🇹 has many other tricks up its sleeve! It is full of buildings – upright ones this time! – remarkable, such as pink-brick Renaissance buildings, typically Tuscan palazzi, churches, crosses of Languedoc inherited from the Crusades, and picturesque alleys 😍. For those with a serious leaning towards running, Pisa is definitely worth the detour for an unmissable event: its end-of-year marathon! The bonus is that it's not just a 42 km. We'll tell you more 👇.

The Maratona di Pisa not only offers the queen distance of road racing, the daunting 42.195 km, but also a half marathon. And since it's late December, it's the perfect time to celebrate Christmas early! 😎 A Family Run under the sign of Christmas, the "Christmas Family Run" 🎅, 4 miles long (6.44 km) will be offered for families 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦. It's perfect for smashing your personal best! A classic program that should charm the most reluctant family members or friends! 😉 All the events start at Piazza Daniele Manin 📍, a stone's throw from Piazza del Duomo, and end at the foot of the Leaning Tower, between the Duomo (the famous cathedral, a symbol of Pisa's Romanesque art with its exuberant facade), the Battistero with its immense dome and the Camposanto (monumental cemetery) 🥰. Whatever your choice, the urban and historical scene of the city will be your playground 🛝.

If you want to explore around the Tower, you can take a Tour in the city that unfolds its charms (we love wordplay at Finishers 🤪): the via Santa Maria with its elegant buildings, the Piazza dei Cavalieri, the Arno, the Galleria Nazionale, the numerous palaces, and also the more popular neighborhoods where you can enjoy Tuscan gastronomy 😋. Pici, fish soups, olive oil bruschetta, Chianti, gelato, vini nobile from Montepulciano, brunello from Montalcino… Tuscany is a true culinary wonder! 🤤 No doubt, the recovery will be both gourmet and cultural!

So, are you ready to pick up speed in Tuscany? The Pisa Marathon is waiting for you! Get your sneakers ready, and a presto! 👟

4 reasons to join this race

For the Christmas spirit 🎄
At the Pisa Marathon, it's not just talk about solidarity, we take real action! The event supports several charitable causes: 6 homeless people from the "Homeless Project" are involved in the organization, while the association Rare Partners (supporting research against Usher syndrome), the Di Ciolo Fencing disabled sports club, the Afaka School Village project in Madagascar, and the association La Tartaruga (linked to Parkinson's disease) are supported by the event 👍.
To challenge the clock ⏱️
Nothing beats a personal challenge at the end of the year to finish the season in style! The Pisa Marathon and Half Marathon offer you a golden opportunity to beat your record on these benchmark distances. It's perfect for starting another marathon — the holiday festivities — in full form! 🏋️
To explore the region 🥰
Although the Tower is the local star, Pisa's region deserves an escapade: immerse yourself in the silent world of the Charterhouse of Pisa, one of the largest monastic complexes in Italy, or set off on an adventure in the Monti Pisani, a mountain range rich in valleys, forests, olive groves, and small typical villages. If you're more into the sea than mountains, treat yourself to a trip along the nearby coast to take a deep breath of sea air right before Christmas! ⛵️
An incredible atmosphere 🥳
The Pisa Marathon is also about the Italian atmosphere, the fiesta for 42 km! You'll even forget the biting cold. The supporters will have you clapping your hands to warm up and will light up all corners of the course! 🔥

A few more words

Running 42.195 km in one of the most iconic cities in Italy 🇮🇹 is quite something! 🚀 The start is at the front of Piazza Daniele Manin, near the race village, just steps away from the Piazza del Duomo in an electrifying atmosphere ⚡️. You'll run along the Arno before crossing it (using a bridge, obviously!) and reach the Della Spina church at the 5th km. You'll then speed towards Vettola, then the basilica San Piero. You'll leave the city to cross the San Rossore natural park and soon reach the Tyrrhenian Sea 🌊. Enjoy the delightful atmosphere of Pisa's marina, which you'll leave at km 29. Then it's a long but pleasant return to take on along the Arno to reach the finish line, at the foot of the Tower of Pisa 🏁.
