Let's be honest, between running and us, it's a bit like the Stockholm syndrome: it makes us suffer, deprives us of our sleep-ins, but we've fallen in love! 💛
Head to Sweden 🇸🇪, and more precisely the capital Stockholm, for the Adidas Premiärmilen 🏃. This spring event, taking place in March, is the must-attend event to gauge your fitness after winter ❄️. The event is packed into an intense day with a main 10 km event, perfect for boosting your cardio 💓. The course is located in Norra Djurgården, a prime area of the Royal National City Park 👸. It's an amazing setting as it's one of the few urban national parks in the world! 🌳 You'll run on varied terrain composed of 59% asphalt, 40% gravel, and a small 1% cobblestones to spice up the end of the course 🌶️. You will cross forest trails, run along a lake💧 and open landscapes full of history, just steps from the city center 🏰. Did you know that Stockholm is built on 14 islands? It's even called the "Venice of the North," so running here is like navigating between land and sea 🌊. The event is organized by Marathongruppen, bringing together the clubs Hässelby SK and Spårvägens FK, true pros in the field 😎. Onsite, the atmosphere is electric ⚡️: locals finally see the light again after months of darkness, and the excitement at the start near the Universitetet station is palpable 🚉. Also, don't be surprised if you encounter very fit runners: running is a religion here, and the Swedish concept of "Lagom" (not too much, not too little) doesn't really apply when it comes to aiming for a personal best! ⏳ With a relatively flat course, it's perfect for qualifying for other races (like the Stockholm Marathon for example 😉), and you'll have support from experienced pacers to help you achieve your goal 🚀.
After crossing the finish line, take advantage of your visit to explore the city 🏙️. We recommend a visit to the Vasa Museum or a stroll at Skansen, the oldest open-air museum in the world 🦌. To recover like a true local, try the "Fika", this sacred coffee break accompanied by a kanelbulle (cinnamon bun). It's the Swedes' secret to keeping a smile even when it's -10°C! 🤫 But don't stop there gastronomically 😋. For a real champion's meal, turn to the must-have köttbullar, those famous meatballs served with smooth mashed potatoes 🧆. For the more adventurous, there's marinated herring, but we suggest sticking to the safe options before catching your flight! 😂
So, ready to run as fast as at IKEA on a Saturday afternoon? 💨
This 10 km takes place in the Norra Djurgården, a district of Stockholm where the Royal National City Park 🌳 is located. You'll wind your way through the forest paths to Husarviken at km3💧. You then continue towards the lakes Laduviken and Spegeldammen before reaching your starting point and crossing the finish line like a rocket 🚀.
