"Who, who? The midnight relayers!" ๐ฅ
For this edition of the Night of the Relays, see you in Bordeaux, in the heart of the Southwest Metropolis, more precisely at Place Pey-Berland ๐ซ๐ท. To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Women's Foundation, the Night of the Relays is setting its bags in early June in Gironde, in the department of New Aquitaine ๐ for an event you will remember for a long time. Here, there's no need to be a marathon runner ๐ or have the calves of Rocky Balboa ๐ฅ: the event is a relay race in solidarity, inclusive, and festive, open to everyone ๐. We're not talking about the stopwatch โฑ๏ธ, but about heart, with an intense evening where every extra lap helps advance women's rights ๐.
The route takes place in the city center of the Bordeaux municipality. The Place Pey-Berland โฒ๏ธ is somewhat the heart of the city ๐: here you will find City Hall (which you can also call "Palais Rohan" if you want to be classy, and which dates back to the 18th century ๐ซจ), the Saint-Andrรฉ Cathedral, or even the Pey-Berland Tower ๐ผ. Each monument has its history and constitutes an architectural marvel ๐๏ธ. So the program is to run as many laps as possible in this iconic local setting ๐. Running in this setting, with a sunset at the end of the day and an atmosphere worthy of the Olympic Games, you'll see it has something grandiose and glorifying ๐คฉ. And especially when you're running for a cause that makes sense... The profile is flat, ideal for alternating between frenzied running and dynamic walking without risking a sprain ๐ธ. You'll set off for a 1.5-hour relay with your team on a 600 m course. All this to support the Women's Foundation which works in assisting women victims of domestic violence.
The atmosphere is the lifeblood of this event ๐ซ. Don't expect monastic silence โช๏ธ: here, it's a true luminous human tide ๐. We have hundreds of participants, companies and teams united under the spotlights ๐ฆ. Between two relay shifts, you'll enjoy a lively village ๐บ, a refreshment bar to recharge ๐ธ, and a DJ set that will transform the mythical square into an open-air nightclub ๐ชฉ. Itโs the ultimate anti-austere race ๐ช, where smiling is mandatory in every photo ๐ธ. Yep, we're watching you ๐.
After the race, take advantage of being in the city center to explore the surroundings ๐. You can extend your run near the Bordeaux Park or stroll along the Left Bank ๐ฆ. The docks were refurbished a few years ago ๐ง, and since then, we haven't found a better place to stroll at the end of the day or on weekends ๐. Taste-wise, venture into the Saint-Rรฉmi and Saint-Pierre streets, just a few meters from the legendary Rue Sainte-Catherine ๐๏ธ, the largest pedestrian and shopping street in Europe ๐ฑ by the way. Indeed, challenges come one after another ๐. These streets are full of typical bistros offering local specialties and sharing boards among teammates. Here in Bordeaux ๐, canelรฉs and duck breasts are kings and it would be a shame to miss out on them ๐.
On your marks. Get set? Run! ๐
Message from the president of the Women's Foundation, Anne-Cรฉcile Mailfert:
โAgainst violence towards women, we all have a role to play. With the Night of the Relays, we turn our collective momentum into concrete action alongside women and the field associations that support them. Ensuring every woman a life without violence may seem obvious, but it remains a battle where each step is a victory.โ
