The event in a few words

Ah, the month of August, it makes us all think of coconut trees, fine sandy beaches, and sunburns... Well, that won't be the case for you (although the latter is to be confirmed) ! ☀️ Get ready to discover in the heart of summer the magnificent landscapes of the mountain chain separating France 🇨🇵 from Spain 🇪🇸, the Pyrenees of course ⛰️ ! Thanks to the TransPyreneA you're about to embark on an extraordinary adventure. The route will take place on the GR10 trails, and will make you cross the Eastern Pyrenees, in New Aquitaine over a hundred kilometers 🤯. You got it, this promises to be a long and tough effort 🥵, but the incredible places you'll discover will be worth it under the songs of the swallows! 🕊️

This Hike Raid offers you the chance to line up at a starting point of 100 km: the 100% Basque 🕺. You'll have to give it your all for 100%, that's for sure 🤣. And if you think the challenge will be boring in solo, don't hesitate to recruit your best friend to chat all the way 🤦‍♂️. No time limit, no pacing issue, everyone is welcome (provided they want to 😬). You'll come back from this journey more united than ever, after going through joy, good humor, frustration, and sweat 😅. Moreover, we can't hide from you any longer that in addition to the massive distance, the elevation gain is also breathtaking: with over 5,000 mD+ on the schedule, you'll need to be tightly strapped in 🏔️. Indeed, that's a lot, but that's the whole challenge of this race crossing the Pyrenees! 💪

As with such challenges, nothing is done halfway, we have to reveal more about your route. Brace yourself because you will fall in love with the stunning views offered by the Pyrenees 👀. Between many high-altitude lakes, a multitude of spa towns, countless summits, the discovery of some of the Most Beautiful Villages of France or even the Pyrenees National Park... everything is worth lingering on 🏞️. The Néouvielle National Nature Reserve, the Lac d'Oô, Étang d'Araing, the Iraty Forest, and the Canigou Massif are just a glimpse of what's in store. But that's not all; keep your eyes open because many animals will populate your route like Pyrenean Mastiffs, sheep, marmots, and there will even be bearded vultures reigning in the skies 🦅. After being isolated for so long, maybe you'll be the one with a beard, but in any case, we told you the Transpyrenea packs a punch! 👊

This race aims to dazzle you with landscapes, burn your thighs, and let you experience a crazy Hike Raid, so your goal is simply to finish! 🏃‍♀️ There will be no ranking and no opponents, everyone will be your teammates, and the cows will be your best spectators 🐄.

And since you mustn't forget to fill your belly, take the opportunity to taste many local specialties of the places you'll cross. We recommend the Ossau-Iraty sheep cheese 🧀, the Black Bigorre Pig 🐽, the spit cake 🥧 accompanied by a glass of Irouléguy wine (in moderation, as always). You're going to enjoy yourself! 😋

You'll see, the TransPyreneA will put you in a trance! 💃

A few more words

The route starts at Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port in front of the village cathedral. Close your eyes and take a deep breath of fresh air whenever you can, as it will be your last for a while 🤪.

You will then follow the GR10 towards Saint-Étienne-de-Baïgorry, where caution is advised if the weather turns bad ☔️. This is followed by the ascent to Pic d'Iparla, at 1,049 m high, just above the clouds, and its technical cliffs before descending to Bidarray, where the second supply stop of the route awaits you at the municipal stadium 🍽️. The path continues towards the village of Ainhoa to reach Sare and the last supply stop of the event 🏁.

The final stretch takes you through Biriatou before the triumphant finish at Hendaye near the Yacht Club, close to the harbor master's office ⚓️. You will be able to dip your feet in the water and refresh yourself peacefully for the rest of the day ☀️.

Unlike a usual race, here there will be no ranking and the time limits are very flexible. Indeed, designed to help you succeed in this challenge, the minimum times are much slower than usual, and you will need to run at least at 2 or 2.5 km/h. It sounds simple, but over such a long distance don't celebrate too early! Especially since Checkpoints can be 24 hours apart...it makes it even more complex.

Many hostels, shelters, and gyms will be on your route!

The organization will provide you with a tent, but no bed will be provided on the route.

Also, be careful not to plan full nights as this will not allow you to finish this adventure within the allotted time.

But you'll have the chance to share super friendly meals with your hosts and other participants! What more could you ask for?

Meals will be provided at various Checkpoints, accounting for 30% to 40% of your food needs. You can guess that's not enough!

To have the necessary resources to complete such an effort, you will be (like all participants) required to have at least 1 meal in your bag. It's up to you to manage your energy needs according to your preferences: bars, fruit compotes, hot meals, broths...! And not just cashews, okay!

The organizers even suggest making a little feast along the way when you feel like it, there's nothing wrong with treating yourself.

And here's our last nutrition tip: one-third of your food in your bag, one-third from the provided resupply points, and one-third purchased along your journey.

Regarding resupply, you will find food distributed along your route at 3 bivouac points, with menu options like pasta, tabbouleh, spaghetti, ratatouille, and vegetables.

The flat rate is €155.

Don't stress, there are emergency services!

The civil protection will be there in force to handle any health issues, be it at checkpoints, life bases, as well as at start and finish points.
