The Triathlon of La Roche-sur-Yon is your annual triathlon event! To combine these three great sports of running ๐โโ๏ธ, cycling ๐ดโโ๏ธ, and swimming ๐โโ๏ธ, you'll need to pack your bags and head to Pays de la Loire, to La Roche-sur-Yon in Vendรฉe ๐งณ. Believe it or not, it's well worth the trip!
From an environmental perspective, La Roche-sur-Yon is top class: not far from our beautiful Breton region ๐ and only a few kilometers from the ocean ๐, you can revel in the beautiful natural landscapes. On the swimming side, the race takes place in the serene lake of Moulin Papon, where the Yon river flows. And for the record, no relation to the famous City of Gones, located on the opposite side of France ๐คทโโ๏ธ. Here, you'll find far less noise and much more serenity than in the homonymous city ๐ง. On the bike, you'll traverse rolling landscapes between agricultural fields, vast grassy meadows, and suburban villages ๐. Although the elevation gain is relatively low, we can assure you that you'll feel the positive meters in your thighs ๐. To end your Yonnaise adventure, you'll weave through narrow streets to cross the entire city center from north to south.
The Triathlon of La Roche-sur-Yon offers four formats, ensuring everyone finds their fit ๐ฅ, whether you're an amateur or a seasoned triathlete! ๐ช Plus, all distances are available in the relay format! ๐ค Let's start with the event's junior, the XS format: if you want to try triathlon but the idea of challenging an Ironman still sends chills down your spine, this format is perfect for you ๐. 300 m swim, 10 km cycling, and 3 km running ๐ is a perfect initiation, and ideally, you should manage without too many muscle aches ๐คช! If you want more exertion, there's its elder sister: the S format. It comprises of 750 meters swimming, followed by 20 km of cycling and 5 km running ๐ตโโ๏ธ. A challenge accessible, but still strong enough to make you feel like a real athlete ๐๏ธโโ๏ธ. If you want to do it with friends or colleagues ๐ผ: it's possible. The "corporate relay" and "student relay" allow you to motivate everyone around you โ . The M format: a little more difficult, but still manageable. Here, you enter the big league but not yet with the superheroes ๐ฆธโโ๏ธ. You will need to dive for 1.5 km swimming ๐โโ๏ธ, mount your bicycle for 40 km, and finally run 10 km. Nothing too impressive, but enough to test if your mental toughness is as solid as your cardio! The L format: you really want to see if you can compete with the elite triathletes? ๐ The L format offers a more serious program: 1.9 km swimming, 90 km cycling, and 21.1 km running ๐โโ๏ธ. Yes, you read that right, a half-marathon! If you choose this format, expect a few muscle aches... Obviously, the kids are not forgotten, quite the contrary ๐ง. Two duathlon formats are planned for children: one for 6-9 years and one for 10-13 years! Enough to give them a taste for adrenaline and make this getaway a good family memory! ๐จโ๐ฉโ๐งโ๐ง And for maximum atmosphere and friendliness: all the finishes are on the legendary Place Napolรฉon ๐โโ๏ธ, the little heart of the city. Everyone can debrief their race in a warm atmosphere, surrounded by all the other participants.
The Triathlon of La Roche-sur-Yon takes place annually in May, and it's honestly an excellent choice โ๏ธ. Why? Because after a winter that might have slightly dampened your spirits, it's the perfect month to rediscover the joy of a bit of sport ๐ค . In Vendรฉe, temperatures are mild ๐ก๏ธ, and the sea air ๐ will make you feel like youโre conquering the events like a war machine (although, it requires some training), even if you're a bit nervous about the swimming โ๏ธ. And then, May is that time of year when the sun starts to settle in for good! ๐ There you go, you have everything you need to pack your backpack, grab your swimsuit ๐, sneakers, and bike for a sensational (and especially sporting) adventure you won't forget soon! ๐ฅฐ
So, what are you waiting for? We already know you're eager to surpass yourself at the Triathlon of La Roche-sur-Yon! โ๏ธ
The "Triathlon L" of La Roche-Sur-Yon is no joke โ. We advise you to come well-prepared. It's not for nothing that the L distance, also known as "70.3", is so renowned. Not everyone can conquer it ๐ฎโ๐จ.
The start is a mass start, where you plunge headlong into the lake of Moulin Papon ๐. After 1.9 km of swimming in open water, you'll be happy to finish the event, but don't let your guard down; you still have the equivalent of a round trip ๐ to Sables-d'Olonne to accomplish by bike (and even a little more ๐ฌ), and the mythical distance of a half-marathon to fly over ๐. Between the scenery of a peaceful lake, rolling countryside, and a quaint city center, you'll see a world of colors ๐จ.
Once you find your hotel or home again, you can let yourself relax for a well-deserved rest ๐ด.
Just like the individual Triathlon L, you will cover a considerable distance, divided between swimming, pedaling, and running. But you're in luck, you can split this course into 3 โ๏ธ with your most reliable companions. Choose the best team, and set off to conquer the title โญ๏ธ.
This intermediate course starts at the water point of Moulin Papon โต๏ธ, like all triathlon starts. You will embark on a race with an average duration of 2h30 to 3h, which will quickly deplete your energy reserves ๐ชซ.
As for the circuit, it's quite similar to that of the "Triathlon L", but shorter. You will be able to get a feel for the place and the little peculiarities of the race as you prepare for a tougher course next year ๐. A swim in a peaceful body of water, cycling around the Yonnais area, and running ๐ on paved ground in the city center are the key elements to remember ๐ง .
Hop-la, the "Triathlon M" is easy! ๐ In a relay, the advantage is that you share the efforts, but also the comfort. The finish will give you unique shared memories ๐.
The Triathlon event "S", like "Super Sporty" ๐ช. The S distance in triathlon is generally the beginning of a great love story โค๏ธโ๐ฅ. We get a taste for it, then test ourselves over time on M, L, Half IronMan, and even IronMan courses for the most passionate ๐ฆธ.
But everything in its own time. Before traveling more than 220 km, divided between cycling, running and swimming, focus first on this initial taste of the effort ๐. It's make or break: the 750 m swim, 20 km bike, and 5 km run will either make you want to sign up for the next edition as soon as you finish ๐, or curl up under your blanket for the coming months and never hear about the activity again ๐ฌ. But in reality, we're not really worried about you, if you're reading these few lines it means you have enough determination to overcome all the obstacles on your route ๐ฅ.
If you're looking for an activity to do with your friends, to find out who is the best athlete in the class ๐, you're in the right place. Line up for the "student relay" and play by the book ๐. If you want more at stake, you can even wager a CROUS cookie as the prize ๐ช.
The perfect opportunity to compete against your office colleagues, not just with reports and strategic documents ๐ค. Put on your best pair of sneakers, wear your most stylish outfit, and show them who is the real boss of running ๐คด. Here, no shirts, suits, clients, or hierarchy: sports, fun, and camaraderie take precedence over everything else ๐.
It's time for an introduction to practice ๐. In terms of distances, they couldn't be shorter. That doesnโt mean it will be easy, but simply that weโve done everything to allow you to experience a first triathlon in the best conditions โ๏ธ.
300 m of swimming may seem short, but you'll see that itโs actually quite significant ๐ . Then, hop on your bike and pedal for 10 kilometers ๐ด. As soon as you reach the last zone, itโs time for a brief middle-distance run of 3 km. Youโll zigzag through the city before crossing the finisher line, happy to have completed it ๐ค.
Will you take on the course S next year? Thatโs the big question ๐.
Each their part, each their challenge ๐. Divide the tasks as a team, but perform together. Given the distances, you have to imagine that it's almost like a sprint on each of the sections. So give it your all, you will have only one attempt! ๐ซต
A duathlon course for the older young runners: 800 m of running, 3 km of cycling, and 750 m of running to finish in record time ๐โโก๏ธ.
