Whistler, baby, whistler, baby 🎶
We’re taking you to the other side of the Atlantic, to Flo Rida’s continent, for a totally frosty adventure in Canada! 🇨🇦 Heading to British Columbia, and more specifically the famous resort of Whistler, to experience the intense Ultra Trail Whistler by UTMB 😍. It’s in the month of August, under ideal summer sunshine, that this major global trail event takes place 📅. The scene is set in the heart of the rugged coastal mountains, on the shared, unceded ancestral territory of the Lil'wat people and the Squamish people 🪶. If you love the vibe of the 2010 Winter Olympics, where Whistler Blackcomb was the star, you’ll love treading these trails steeped in sporting history! ⛷️ The resort offers an incredible setting where the community of enthusiasts comes together for an immersive and festive weekend, with everything within easy reach inside the village 🏔️.
Here, the organization serves up a hearty menu made up of four distances that are part of the UTMB circuit and award you the famous running stones ☝️. Hostilities kick off in style with the flagship 100 km race, featuring a monumental elevation gain of 5,100 m D+ 😲. For this legendary segment starting at the Creekside gondola, you’ll climb Mount Whistler up to the summit and the Roundhouse aid station, before descending back to the base of the mountain to begin a second ascent to Mount Blackcomb, finishing at Spruce Grove Park 🌳. If you’d rather split the difference, the 50 km format and its 3,200 m D+ offer you the same mythical summits with a start in Creekside, the climb of Mount Whistler, a return to the village, and the ascent of Blackcomb before reaching the finish 🏁. Lovers of shorter efforts will turn to the 25 km course with 1,500 m D+ starting from Spruce Grove Park, taking the trails of Lost Lake 💧. Finally, the discovery route of 12 km and its 550 m D+ offers beginners a fairly steep climb leading to Mount Blackcomb via Lost Lake before a steady descent back to Spruce Grove Park 🏃. We guarantee it: the wild environment of the Canadian Coast Mountains is an absolute feast for the eyes 👀. You’ll move through the heart of an alpine playground with diverse beauty, typical of the American West Coast 🌍. The route fully immerses you in grand high-mountain landscapes where towering old-growth forests and lush conifer forests take shape 🌲. Gaining altitude, you’ll cross magnificent green alpine meadows before reaching rocky ridgelines that overlook sparkling alpine lakes and icy glacial lakes 💎. The contrast is striking between the technicality of the steep slopes and the serenity of the open alpine panoramas, offering spectacular views of the famous volcanic peak of Black Tusk 🌋.
Once you cross the finish line at Spruce Grove Park, the adventure continues long after the running 🏃. What to do after the race? 🧐 It’s the perfect time to pamper your legs and celebrate your achievement! On the culture side, the Audain Art Museum awaits with its contemporary architecture for a moment of calm wonder 🧘. Whistler is also a true paradise for food lovers: go and refuel in the local breweries, trendy cafés, and the village’s excellent tables 🍔. Tireless endorphin seekers can rent a bike to explore the valley’s paved paths, discover hidden waterfalls, or try the famous Bike Park in downhill mode 🚴. To finish on a high note, why not soar over the valley on a zipline or head out on a 4x4 excursion? 🧭
Word on the street is you might just love this trail 🤪
