The event in a few words

Whether you’re team vampire 🧛‍♂️ or werewolf 🐺, you’re invited to the Val'Oween Trail ! In late October, it’s the time of year when we love to scare ourselves to celebrate Halloween 🎃. So how about a night trail? 🌔 It’s in Saint-Geoire-en-Valdaine, in Isère, in the Chartreuse Massif that the running monsters will be unleashed ⚡. Forest, castles, ponds—all the gloomy ingredients will be brought together to make you shiver during your race 😨. But look on the bright side: you run faster when you’re scared, right? 😂

To challenge yourself and try to outrun the creatures 🧌, you’ll have more or fewer kilometers to cover—and more or less time to get frightened! 😱 "The Big Scaredy-Cat" is the evening’s biggest trail with 30 km and 999 mD+ (so as not to say 1,000 and send a chill down more than one spine 🥶). Its little sister, "The Jittery One", more forgiving toward trail runners’ souls, will have you take on 18 km and 666 mD+. Well, well, well—like the devil’s number... Coincidence? 👿 Let’s move on to the youngest, "The Little Fearful One" at 8 km and 280 mD+, which will also host the hike 🥾. And just because it’s the shortest route doesn’t mean it’s any less scary! All the Val'Oween Trail routes pass as close as possible to the 7 castles of Sainte-Geoire-en-Valdaine 📍. Haunted or not, abandoned or rebuilt—you’ll find out during your race 🗺️. We wouldn’t want to spoil it for you... or scare you 🤫. And what about the kids in all this? 🧒 4 races will be offered to them to train for the big candy hunt night! 🍬 The little ones can only be happy, because this event is for them too: you’ll be running in support of the Sou des Écoles of Saint-Geoire-en-Valdaine 🏫. And for the less energetic—or simply those who like to take their time watching night fall—a hike is also offered with a late-day start. Still, don’t drag your feet if you don’t want to disappear like in those nasty horror movies 👹.

To unwind after all those emotions, why not loosen up a bit? 💆‍♂️ If your legs are still holding up, plenty of hikes can be done in the Chartreuse Massif! ⛰️ You can even head to Lake Paladru for a more relaxed stroll 🚶‍➡️. These castles have sparked your curiosity about the region’s history in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, haven’t they? 😏 Nothing beats a detour to the Monastery of the Grande Chartreuse, still in operation! ⛪ Not far away, you’ll find the Maison des Pères Chartreux and can learn more about these monks and the story behind the creation of the green elixir that bears their name and that of the mountain range: Chartreuse! 🍸

To take part in the Val'Oween Trail, all that’s left is to answer one simple question: "A bib or a spell?" 🧙

4 reasons to join this race

Halloween ahead of time 🎃
Val'Oween is the warm-up for the big candy hunt on the night of October 31! Except here, there are no sweets at the end of the line—just the joy of taking part and the medal (and it’s not made of chocolate 😝)!
Running at night 🌙
Heading out to get lost on trails at night as Halloween approaches... Sounds like a horror movie plot, we’ll give you that! But here, you won’t risk taking a wrong turn, because plenty of volunteers will be there to guide you through the night! 🔦
An event for everyone 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦
Trail running, hiking, kids’ races... Clearly, the whole family is invited to the party! No need to be a trail ace or even go very fast—the most important thing here is to have fun and get a good dose of thrills! 👻
Do a good deed 🤗
The Val'Oween Trail is organized in support of the Sou des Écoles of Saint-Geoire-en-Valdaine! So don’t be afraid to grab your bib: when it’s for a good cause, you’ve got the courage to do anything! 🫶

A few more words

For "The Big Scaredy-Cat", the start of the course will be the same as "The Scaredy-One" up to Saint-Sixte (km 12). You will follow along Lake Saint-Sixt 🏞️, head to the Chartreux pond, then do a short loop in the Rocharey National Forest 🌳. If you managed to slip between the strands of spider webs 🕸️, you will reach the finish line by following the same route as the 18 km! 🏁
