« When we left early in the morning, when we set out on the roads, by bicycle… », like Yves Montand, take your bicycle, your mountain bike 🚴 (and your sneakers 👟), let us take you to discover a friendly, convivial, and sporty event in the East of France, the Yonne Vétathlon 🇫🇷.
Yes, it's in the Yonne it happens, not Yvonne, your old aunt, Y O N N E 🤓. One hour south of Paris, this department located in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region is a contrasted territory shared between the beauty of its plateaus, its vineyards 🍇, its waterways 💦, its dense forests 🌲, and its rich medieval heritage 🏰. But far from castles and fortresses, it's in the heart of the Icaunaise town (yes, that's the demonym for Yonne), Champlost that we take you to run 🏃♀️ and pedal 🚴 at the end of June. It is under the first rays of summer sun ☀️ that the unique Yonne Vétathlon takes place. Organized by the friendly association of Champlost firefighters 🧑🚒, this family-friendly and convivial event welcomes both young and old, runners and cyclists from all over France.
3 events that flirt between road and path are on the agenda 🏁. The first and not the least, the 35 km, which can be done solo or in relay 2-or 3-person (another great way to challenge friends 😉). The course includes successively 3 routes: a trail of 10 km to 'warm up', then a 20 km mountain bike ride in the shade, in the heart of the Malgouvernes Prunelles state forest, and the last 5 kilometers running to reach the finish line in the village 🏘️. For the less ambitious, there is the 16 km starting with 5 km of trail followed by 10 km of mountain biking and finishing with one last kilometer of trail. Since the organizers are generous, they've also thought of the younger generation with their own vetathlon 🐣. So if you're aged 12 to 18, get ready to chain 1 km running, 5 km mountain biking, and another 1 km running. In short, you'll understand, there are options for everyone! 😍
In terms of scenery, the Yonne Vétathlon will delight athletes 🏋️ in search of open spaces and nature 🍃. Between farm tracks, hills, and woodlands, Champlost and its surroundings resemble the backdrop of Little House on the Prairie 🌿. But the serenity of this pastoral scene will be somewhat disrupted by the cheers of the crowd specially come to empower the participants 💪. And there will be atmosphere, we guarantee it! 🎉
After your race, you can give your legs a rest and stimulate your taste buds by enjoying good grilled meats 🍗, fresh melon 🍈, fries 🍟, cheese 🧀, or ice cream 🍦! All with a little musical ambiance to pace your bites 🎶. In short, a convivial moment with summer scents awaits you! Enough to motivate more than one 😎. You'll leave with memories full of the head, the feet, and the belly! 😂 No doubt, history and architecture lovers will also find their bliss with a visit to the Vézelay Basilica (a World Heritage Site by Unesco 😮), or by getting lost in the streets of the medieval towns of Auxerre, Joigny, and Sens 🏰.
And because when Yonne, there's more Yonne, if you want to discover other races in the Bourgogne Franche-Comté region, it's here 👈.
Since the organizers are generous, they've also thought of the younger generation with their own vetathlon 🐣. So if you're aged 12 to 18, get ready to chain 1 km running, 5 km mountain biking, and another 1 km running.
