Normandy is a natural area blessed in the French landscape, between its natural treasures and its unique heritage. Combining the mythical distance of the marathon with this legendary land is a delight!
Normandy could have become English after the reign of William the Conqueror, Duke of Normandy, King of England from 1066 to 1087. Phew 😅, we narrowly escaped that and this unique region was able to develop its gastronomy 😁 like the rest of France. What would have become of butter and cream cuisine without that? You have 4 hours. No, kidding, it's better to use that time to run a marathon in Normandy! A region between land and sea, with its impressive cliffs of the Alabaster Coast and Étretat, or its fine sand beaches at Deauville or Trouville (Flowered Coast)… The major cities of the region, Caen, Rouen, Cherbourg or Le Havre are all interesting to discover. Enjoy the pretty half-timbered houses like in Alsace! Of course, don't forget your umbrella 🌦 just in case... But that's also the charm of the oceanic climate! Le Havre, entirely rebuilt after the bombings of World War II, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The iconic landing beaches (Omaha beach, Juno Beach, Sword Beach, Gold Beach, Utah Beach...) are places full of history where time stands still for a moment. As for the symbol of Normandy, it is known worldwide just like the Eiffel Tower: the Mont Saint Michel obviously! The hedgerows, the forests and the plains make up the landscape of Normandy, perfect for road running. All the departments of Normandy (Calvados, Eure, Manche, Orne, Seine-Maritime) offer rather flat terrains, except for Orne perhaps, which has the Signal d’Écouves (413 meters) as the highest regional point. Nature lovers are in for a treat with all the natural parks in the area, such as the Regional Natural Park of Perche or the Regional Natural Park of the Loops of the Norman Seine.
Ready for a marathon in Normandy? Let's start with something grand and prestigious right away, with the Run in Mont Saint-Michel by Harmonie Mutuelle, which will allow you to tread the legendary bay and enjoy a truly unique landscape. The organizers have even planned a duo race on the distance. The Marathon Seine Eure offers a classic marathon, also in duo version, but also an Ekiden 🇯🇵! This event consists of road relays by teams of six. In Caen, the aptly named Marathon de la Liberté combines road and sea air. The Marathon International de Deauville, meanwhile, not only offers the mythical distance but also thinks about the whole family, with various distances including a race for children. Thank you!
