What is it? Not another combat sport, but a whole discipline of running. Ekiden is a relay race typically run over the Marathon distance, with 4 or 6 teammates.
The 42.195 kilometers of the Marathon relay are run in successive stages organized as follows: 5km, 10km, 5km, 10km, 5km, and finally 7.195km. Team runners traditionally pass on a baton called Tasuki, a fabric sash. Ekiden was born in Japan 🇯🇵 in 1917. The first event of this relay race lasted 3 days, with a course spanning 508 kilometers between Kyoto and Tokyo 😮! This sport is inspired by the old Japanese postal transport system on the Tōkaidō road. Relay stations were set up along this 500-kilometer route on Japan's east coast, between Edo and Kyoto. Ekiden relay arrived in Europe in 1992 adopting the reference distance of the Marathon, before experiencing a significant boom in the 2000s. Nowadays, Ekiden is run worldwide, including in France of course. Taking place throughout the year, Ekiden will make you live intense emotions in a team, for a great moment of sharing 🤗. This discipline is for everyone: women, men, children.
