Three disciplines for three times the effort, it's going to be beefy in the Loire!

And we're not talking about beef. It's in your thighs where it will all happen 🥩. Your next adrenaline rush awaits in a department well known to French footballers: the Loire. Luckily for everyone, we're not going to talk about football but triathlon 🏊.

No chasing after a ball ⚽️ here, we run, pedal, and swim at our own pace! If you're looking for a sporting challenge worth its name, the Loire might be just the ticket. With several events mostly held in May and June, the water will be just the right temperature for you to splash around before a few kilometers of running 🏃. The Monts du Forez and the meandering river that gives the département its name have plenty of surprises in store for you 🎁. You'll discover a playground as technical as it is stunning. But the real perk here: it's the post-race 😂. On the gastronomy front, the region isn't lacking: you'll always find a slice of apple tart or a piece of Fourme de Montbrison to help you recover 🥧. So whether you're a young gone ready to duke it out (as our dear neighbors from Lyon would say) or an aficionado of triathlon, get ready for a seriously intense experience 👟.

Participating in a Loire race is like stepping back in time, but without the period attire (though you can certainly show up in costume at the starting line 🥸). You'll dive into a fascinating history spanning from the Arms Factory in Saint-Étienne to the medieval castles overlooking the Gorges of the Loire 🏰. If you can't quite understand the locals, don't worry, it's likely they're speaking their dialect: the "Stéphanois gaga" 🗣️. Despite its name, which might suggest a childish language, rest assured, it's an old local dialect that has nothing to do with premature babbling ❌. To impress other competitors and showcase your knowledge of the terrain, be sure to admire and gush over the lovely local barabans and babets 🌲. You can also enjoy remnants of past civilizations, like the Château de la Roche, a structure on the water that looks like something out of a swashbuckling film ⚔️.

The Loire is vast, beautiful, and natural, making it the perfect place for a first-time experience of this practice. During your course, you'll transition from the continental climate of the summits of Pilat to the gentle plains of Forez 🌳. For those who love running in nature, with the sound of wind and nature, technical trails and underwood await your strides. It was on these lands that Arthur Forissier, world champion of Cross Triathlon (Xterra), grew up, hailing from Saint-Étienne 🏆. He honed his skills on the Pilat trails to become one of the world's best, proving that the Loire's elevation is the best school for forging a champion ⛰️. In the ultra-trail category, Baptiste Chassagne also showcased what Loire training can achieve 🤪.

Now, if you're determined to pick up your race bib, let us introduce you to two flagship events in the region. The first is the Triathlon des Gorges de la Loire, starting from the watersports base of Saint-Victor-sur-Loire. This medieval village probably hosts the most iconic race in the area 🤩. With its challenging courses and views over the lake of Grangent, the event has quickly made a name for itself in French triathlon 🇫🇷. And as if that weren't convincing enough, the event's patron is none other than the former world champion, European champion, and French champion of cross triathlon, previously mentioned, Mr. Arthur Forissier 👏. The guy collected all the titles he could, so if he decided to be the patron of this particular triathlon, it must be worth it 😳. Plus, you can choose between an M format or an S format. If you're not available in May: "don't worry, be happy". In June, head to the north of the department for the famous Triathlon de Roanne-Villerest, where you can enjoy swimming in the calm waters of the lake before tackling a forest race and the hilly roads of Roannais 🚴. It's the perfect opportunity to discover picturesque villages like Saint-Jean-Saint-Maurice-sur-Loire (triple word score! 🀄️), Le Crozet, or even Perreux! And for the occasion, organizers have prepared courses from XS format to M format.

So, after all these pointers, it's up to you to decide whether you're more into perfecting your records or savoring the view of the peaks 🏔️. The Loire offers a perfect blend of sporting challenge and cultural richness 📚, all sprinkled with a gastronomy that will make you forget even the most painful muscle aches 🥵. Between sessions, don't forget to taste the chocolates from Pralus in Roanne, a local celebrity worth more than all the energy gels in the world! ⚡️ To extend your vacation, also take a detour to the beautiful city of Lyon: the typical bouchons and culinary specialties will leave you with unforgettable memories of the region! 🍽️ You just have to choose your challenge according to your fitness level and register for an extraordinary human and sporting adventure 🏁.

Stop searching, it's time for training and ef-Forez!
