Three disciplines for three times the effort, get ready to give it your all in the Loire!

And we're not talking about beef. It's all about your quads 🥩. Your next adrenaline fix is in a department well-known to French footballers: the 42. Fortunately for everyone, we’re not talking football, but triathlon 🏊.

No chasing after a ball here ⚽️, we run, pedal, and swim at our own pace! If you're looking for a real athletic challenge, the Loire might just delight you. With several events mostly in the months of May and June, the water will be the perfect temperature for a peaceful dip before a few kilometers of running 🏃. The Monts du Forez and the meanders of the river that gives the department its name, hold plenty of surprises 🎁. You'll discover a playground as technical as it is sublime. But the real advantage is the post-race 😂. As for gastronomy, the area is not lacking: you'll always find a slice of apple pie or a piece of Fourme de Montbrison to refresh yourself 🥧. So whether you're a young gone ready to test your mettle (as our dear Lyonnais neighbors would say) or a fan of the triple effort, get ready for an intensely exciting experience 👟.

From Saint-Étienne to Roanne: a sports and historical journey

Participating in a Loire race is like traveling back in time, without the period costumes (though you can certainly show up in costume at the starting line 🥸). You'll delve into a rich history, stretching from the factories of the Manufacture d'Armes in Saint-Étienne to the medieval castles overlooking the Loire Gorges 🏰. And if you don't quite understand the locals, don't worry, it's probably because they're using their own dialect: the "gaga stéphanois" 🗣️. And even if the name might imply a childish language, don't be fooled, it's an old local language that has nothing to do with premature babbling ❌. To impress other competitors and show off your knowledge of the area, don't hesitate to admire and marvel at the lovely barabans and babets around 🌲. But you can also enjoy the remnants of previous civilizations, such as the Château de la Roche, a building perched on the water that seems straight out of a swashbuckling film ⚔️.

An ideal wild environment

The Loire is big, beautiful, and natural, basically the perfect spot for a first exploration of the sport. Along your route, you'll pass from the continental climate of the summits of the Pilat to the gentle plains of the Forez 🌳. For those who enjoy running in the open air, to the sound of the wind and nature, the technical trails and underbrush await your steps. It's on these lands that Arthur Forissier, world champion of Cross Triathlon (Xterra), from Saint-Étienne 🏆, grew up. He honed his skills on the Pilat trails to become one of the best in the world, proving that the Loire elevation changes are the best training ground to forge a champion ⛰️. In the ultra-trail category, Baptiste Chassagne also showed what training in the Loire can achieve 🤪.

Events not to be missed

Now, if you're ready to grab your bib, let us introduce you to two major events in the region. The first is the Triathlon des Gorges de la Loire, starting from the nautical base of Saint-Victor-sur-Loire. This medieval village probably hosts the most iconic race in the area 🤩. With its challenging courses and breathtaking view over the Lac de Grangent, the event quickly made a name for itself in the French triathlon circuit 🇫🇷. And if that wasn't convincing enough, the event's patron is none other than former world champion, European champion, and French cross triathlon champion, aforementioned, M. Arthur Forissier 👏. The guy racked up all the titles, so if he decided to be the patron of this particular triathlon, it must be worth it 😳. Plus, you can choose between a M format or an S format. If you're not available in May: "don't worry, be happy". In June, head to the north of the department for the famous Triathlon de Roanne-Villerest, where you can swim in the calm waters of the lake before tackling a forest run and the hilly roads of the Roannais 🚴. It's the perfect opportunity to discover charming villages like Saint-Jean-Saint-Maurice-sur-Loire (triple word score! 🀄️), Le Crozet, or even Perreux! And for the occasion, the organizers have prepared courses ranging from XS format to M format.

Come test your iron will

So, after all these details, it's up to you to decide if you're more into perfecting your records or enjoying the view from the peaks 🏔️. The Loire offers a perfect blend of sporting challenge and cultural richness 📚, all sprinkled with a gastronomic experience that will make you forget even the most painful muscle soreness 🥵. Between sessions, don't forget to try the chocolates from Pralus in Roanne, a local celebrity that beats all the energy gels in the world! ⚡️ To extend your vacation, also take a detour to the beautiful city of Lyon: the typical bouchons and culinary specialties will leave you with unforgettable memories of the region! 🍽️ All that's left is to choose your challenge according to your fitness level and confirm your registration for an extraordinary human and sporting adventure 🏁.

Enough searching, it's time to train and bring the ef-Forez!
